Thanks mate, appreciate it :good thought you may have plucked it from a book that id have to track down. haha. I dont mind Fitzsimons work, he does some interesting stuff.
Never heard a bad breath aimed towards Fammo. He's a class act through and through, when those who knew him reminisce about him, they do so quite fondly. The same can be said for the other two as well. The sad note to that story is that im sure it would not have been the first time Lionel would have been abused by some drunk racist bigot. Nor would Lionel's situation been entirely unique, with many of the great aboriginal boxers suffering similar situations in their time. That said he had some special friends and cant think of two better people to watch over the great man's shoulder than Fammo and Harada. I really enjoy hearing that the guys from this era kept in touch and the respect they held for each other as men aswell as boxers.
I'm going to be honest- im from the USA and never rwally paid attention to these wonderful boxers until a couple of years ago. And wow. Fammechon is so slick and such a master boxer. Rose is so fluid in his movements and his fight with Harada is a masterclass that is just stunning to watch. Harada is a beast. He makes Aaron Pryor look tame. Gotta say I dont see Fenech beating either Rose or Fammo and I really think Harada would have ran him over.
I had the pleasure of interacting/interviewing Harada recently. A really nice man. I read Fammo and Rose’s autobiography’s and enjoyed them. Both were excellent fighters and seemingly really nice guys.
I actually got to meet Fammo at his house in February 2012, a month after my last post on this thread. We had a great couple of hours talking boxing.
Hey guys, this is a higher quality Japanese version of Rose - Harada, in case you ever wanted to watch again. This content is protected
