Hi everyone, I am going to watch this one tonight and groove on a bit of nostalgia. In my opinion this is the greatest performance by an Aussie fighter. Harada was an absolute all time great, Rose was very young and inexperienced yet the Aussie performed like a veteran. Rose was a really easy fighter on the eye and had rare talent. He was also an absolute gent of a fella out of the ring. The commentary is Japanese but the quality of the film is very good. Cheers All. This content is protected
I watched this the other night and again I had Rose a runaway winner. It's a real masterclass for me. incredible ring smarts when you consider he was only 19. I've been meaning to put my scorecard and comments down on the "what fights have you watched thread". Maybe I'll do it tomorrow.
One of the greatest performances of all time and one of the greatest wins ever. Just magnificent. That's Fighting Harada that he's in there with. Fighting Harada having that done to him. Rose had a size and strength advantage no doubt, but he was a light hitting counter puncher against a near Duran/Armstrong level swarmer away from home in the belly of the beast at 19 years of age. Wonderful fighter, one of my favourites to watch.
I've said it before, if Floyd Mayweather put a performance like that in against an ATG, people would say he was the best ever.
Trailer for Stolen Glory. The story of Porky Brooke. Porky was the first cousin of Lionel Rose. It was always Porky dream to fellow his first cousin into the ring and he did. At the tender age of 16 , Porky left school to train with legendary trainer Jack Rennie. However Porky would never reach world title glory. This is the first time Porky spoke about the details of the the final stages of his career which was tragically and controversially cut short. This content is protected
I have a cousin in Australia who was a boxer.....Patsy LaManna.....got injured in a match many years ago. He's been messed up for decades.
Looking forward to seeing that. I followed Porky's career back in the day because he was related to Lionel. We met up with him in Melbourne on that trip and I got to say what a lovely fella he is, 100 percent genuine. We keep in touch through facebook.
Hi fellas, just dropping in to say how much I have enjoyed the responses to the thread. Thanks for the video on Porky Brooke, Mr Juppity. Lionel was one of those fighters who absolutely peaked the night he won the title. I don't think he was ever that good again, making weight at 118 was killing him ( as yas said he was only 19 n still maturing ) and once he reached the top with all the distractions that entailed I don't think Lionel was ever as fit or strong again in a fight. That's very sad Franklin. Pat Lamanna was your cousin's name mate and he was badly injured in a televised fight in the early 1970s with a guy named Neville Williams. Pat gets a mention in this blog piece about Azumah Nelson revisiting Australia. http://azumahnelsonbiography.com/azumah-in-australia/ That was a wonderful post re Rose , Mayweather and Harada, Alf. Lionel was THAT good that night. Cheers Everyone.
