Ross is clearly the greater and better fighter for me. Read the reports of their 1st fight, where many NY reporters claimed he outboxed, outfought and outgeneralled McLarnin. In the second bout 2/3 of newspaper critics reportedly voted for Ross. And he clearly won the 3rd match, even if not by wide margin.
Ironically, concerning McLarnin...he flashed opening round ko power in tkoing Young Corbett ll(or was it lll?) in the 1st round...the right hand being the weapon of the night....then he never scored another ko for the rest of his career. Sure it was just 6 bouts, bought between just 3 men, but that title winning ko was his last.
Two very high quality greats as far as I'm concerned...the least of them being superior to many of the same old, same olds that get special treatment here on this forum.
It was a long time ago that I studied those fights.. I sure that McClarnin disputed it. Not sure how the press landed.
