Nah....Sonny Liston took the best punches of Cleveland Williams as though they were nothing. I very much doubt that Purrity knocks him out.
Liston got sparked out by light-hitting Ali. Puritty has every chance of knocking him out if Liston decides to trade with him.
Liston absorbed the punches of Cleveland Williams,Nino Valdez, and Mike DeJohn without hitting the deck.George Chuvalo nominated Mike DeJohn and George Foreman as the 2 hardest punchers he fought. Liston was not sparked out by Ali.If you care to look at the footage of the fight you will see that Sonny was trying to get up but the referee was allowing Ali to stand over Liston, preventing him from rising from the canvas. Also,Muhammad Ali was not exactly feather-fisted.If he caught his opponent by surprise ( as he did with Liston ) in all probality he would deck him. This is not evidence that a prime/reasonably prime Sonny Liston would be knocked out by Ross Purrity.
Sonny Liston, an undisputed Heavyweight champion who destroyed the top ten contenders of his day leading up to his crowning achievement, would beat Ross Purrity who I also liked but was a journeyman and occasional spoiler.
You seem to have the missed the point of this discussion.Cleveland was a titanic puncher, undoubtedly one of the hardest punchers in heavyweight history.Hence that's why I used Sonny Liston's fights with Cleveland as empirical evidence that Sonny could take a helluva punch. Your comments about Cleveland Williams while being inaccurate are also irrelevant in the context of this subject.Williams was a massive puncher, and he was unable to deck Sonny Liston. In the context of this discussion, that's all anybody needs to know.
This content is protected If he got Emmanuel Steward and a full camp for each fight, he could've been a top ten guy or titlist.
No doubt. With time to prepare and elite conditioning, Puritty would be a tough fight for anybody. The guy punched hard and was as tough as they come. Great physical talent, plus he obviously was a quick learner.
Boxingfool2002 believes that a paraplegic squirrel with CTE while having a stroke hits 100x harder than Cleveland.
Small men beating up a series of undersized heavies ... without hitting the deck.George Chuvalo nominated Mike DeJohn and George Foreman as the 2 hardest punchers he fought. LOL yeah I'm sure he was just about to go into hulk mode but the damn ref robbed him of his win. Sure it is
