Yep. Physically Ross had all the tools that you could wish for. Size, massive punch, big durability. His downsides were somewhat slow speed, low workrate and he was a little light on the skills. But: anybody looking to slug with Puritty was making the wrong choice and I extend that to Liston too. Sonny would have to curb his aggressive tendencies and be content with a points win or he'd find himself in trouble.
That’s just it, Liston in all the fights I’ve seen never stopped someone coming to him he’d be out of his usual waters here, it’d be interesting to see someone there to last on his chest 40lbs heavier digging into him moving him around the ring and just overpowering him on the inside. How would he look on the opposite side of things? As a psychical inferior. Perspective… the size difference is larger than Liston vs Patterson.
Nooooo....the issue was your incorrect assertion that Liston was '' sparked out '' by Ali, which he clearly wasn't.Who knows what would unfolded if Jersey Joe had done his job properly ? Once again you are introducing totally irrelevant points to this conversation. If one goes by your line of argument then Purrity punches harder than men like Liston and Foreman simply because Ross weighed around 250 lbs. No,simply, irrefutably, profoundly no.
Ah yes, those small/medium heavies would be doomed if they fought 250 lbs men like Purrity. I mean look what happened to Dempsey when he fought Willard, poor Joe louis when he took on Abe Simon and Buddy Baer,David Haye when he was reckless enough to fight Valuev.Oh wait........
Don’t get snarky with me, if you read my post history I’m also debating that Louis would cut ass today in another thread less than a few hours ago. It’s not about size, it’s a matter of styles and how that influences an individual bout. Some guys fight more to there physicality some are thinkers both need to be assessed differently, Louis and Dempsey didn’t rely on there size and aren’t comprised by bigger opponents. I’m the last guy who should be called out for thinking size is the only thing, (it matters though) I regularly say James Toney would beat George Foreman lol.
Sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.Liston was renowned as a skilled, technical operator not just an overpowering slugger.Which, without wishing to distress you,is an assumption you appear to have made.
What’s the end game here? lol “Oh I think you’re offended and your assessment of Liston differs to mine” Who cares? Why are you so emotionally invested in my fantasy boxing opinion that you want to insult me?
With respect it's you who is being emotional. In fact you're borderline hysterical.Perhaps you should go and lie down and put all of this out of your mind.
Correct ^ While we disagree on the amount of success Louis would have nowadays, I concur that stylistic mashups are just as important as physical attributes.
Lighten up chief it’s “Fantasy” boxing think Superman vs The Hulk I don’t know why you’re doubling down on being an edgy, condescending tween. I’m the resident edge lord I regularly fail so take it from me it’s not that serious man this is just water cooler talk.
Amazing comment. Peak forum right here folks. Stop the train folks! Spreadeagle will now teach us about Farmer Jess' sublime and underrated skills. For too long has Willard been dismissed as a flailing buffoon straight off the haystack. Eagle will enlighten us on the finer points of Big Jess' technique.
Superman could handle the Hulk but could he handle Goku? Don't make me borderline hysterical if you answer this wrong ...
