Again you are wilfully ignoring the facts that I am explaining to you re the long-term
impact of the injuries suffered by Cleveland Williams in comparison to those incurred
    by Ron Lyle.

There is no compare because Lyle had as bad situation as Williams, he died twice on the operating table, started late and then died because the same abdomen injury when he was old.

I swear the classic forum has gone downhill since I joined just full of people baiting and trolling. Imagine having to debate for pages and pages about Liston vs Purrity with some people even suggesting Puritty could win by KO I'm literally losing braincells reading some of these comments.

Puritty was a durable journeyman with some ability but he very rarely let his hands go and often had a sparring partner mentality. Yes he beat a green Wladimir who had never been extended the distance who punched himself out after winning every round. But to suggest that fight has any relevance to a prime Liston is absolutely laughable.

Liston would win a wide UD over Puritty without getting out of 2nd gear Puritty wouldn't let his hands go and would be totally outclassed in every way.

No No No.I'm not denying that Ron Lyle suffered a horrific stabbing. However the injuries
incurred by Cleveland Williams had a more damaging effect on his ability to perform as a
    boxer.

    Cool story bro.

While I don't deny Liston had more skills than Ross and could have good, maybe excellent prospects of winning a boxing match ... Liston also had a style where he was keen to exchange and to impose himself on the other fighter. That may have worked on guys with glass jaws or the little "heavy" weights Liston often faced, but it would be the wrong approach against Puritty. Ross is bigger, stronger and tougher than Liston and could absolutely win a shootout.

Ross Puritty was a durable journeyman who didn't let his hands go Puritty didn't win "shoot outs" what you're saying is a complete fantasy.

Puritty would stand there all night letting an opponent tee off on him that's why a green Wladimir lost to him he tired himself out pounding on Puritty all night long.

I'd like to know an example of Puritty winning a "shoot out" against a notable opponent as you're claiming. Because my memory of Puritty is that he was a plodder with no output and his only standout attribute was his chin.

And what part of that post answers my question ? What top 10 Heavyweight did Puritty beat in a shoot out ? I'm still waiting.

As I said what you're stating is a fantasy Puritty didn't win shoot outs he was a low output plodding slow Heavyweight with a very good chin which as I said is his only standout attribute. And he often ended up losing wide decisions based on the fact he never threw punches.

Puritty wasn't the type of guy that went to war exchanging punches which is what you're claiming. The most active I see Puritty was probably vs Morrison but he still didn't get the W.

What I'm claiming is if Liston gives him the gap he's gonna take it. As per that video. Liston is a little guy trying to juggle grenades here.

But what you must realize Puritty had a sparring partner mentality he just didn't throw punches and was happy losing a wide decision.

The most likely outcome is Liston hits him with a few hard shots and Puritty goes into shell and loses a clear cut decision.

Puritty is better than his record suggests and hes a tough guy so I give him respect. And maybe if he would've had the backing and matched up better he could've had a better career.

But as it stands hes just a big plodding Heavyweight with an above average chin. Puritty beat Wladimir just based on his durability he wasn't engaging Wladimir in a shoot out. He just soaked up punches and then finished off an exhausted Wladimir who punched himself out.

Liston would just jab Puritty's head off land occasional power shot and keep him firmly in his shell.

Meanwhile in real life there's good heavies that "hit him with a few hard shots" and ended up tasting canvas afterwards. See post #24

And yet again I fail to see how Jorge Luis Gonzalez who failed as a professional and a green Wladimir Klitschko who punched himself out are at all relevant to a prime Sonny Liston or are you just baiting again like you often like to do ?

Meanwhile in the actual real world and not in your fantasy world where Puritty is some warrior who engages in "shoot outs". He was losing one sided decisions to pretty much every notable Heavyweight where he threw next to nothing happily taking the loss with a sparring partner mentality.

But yeah I'm sure the guy who lost by shut out to Michael Grant, and lost almost every round to Hasim Rahman, is going to be an Arturo Gatti type warrior going throwing punches for round after round until he stops Liston.

Nice bait but try harder next time Puritty was a plodder with no output and would be schooled easily losing a wide decision.

So you admit that Ross would not just give up after "a few hard shots". Wow. Getting somewhere.

Nice try but I already posted that Liston could outbox Puritty. Of course, little Liston might try to KO Puritty, which would be the wrong strategy, as I have pointed out.

It’s embarrassing…but only for BCS8. Though I would not be surprised to learn he’s trolling.
