that's so true. Ward is running out of opponents at 168 he was going to move up eventually and Dawson was going to make more money defending his title.
It will be easy for Dawson to come back, because he knows he was weight drained and had a poor training camp. But Dawson is stupid when it comes to management, it was stupid for Dawson to call out Ward after beating Hopkins and then agreeing to Ward's terms.
Well his skills degraded when he left Floyd Sr who was the perfect trainer for him, but Dawson couldn't put up with Floyd Sr's boot camp mentality (even though it made him a better fighter).
I'm not sure why everyone is criticizing Chad's decision. He wanted to challenge himself. He got flattened but at least he can use the weight drain excuse. It's just ONE loss. At least he didn't lose to a bum. He can still go back to LHW and rack up some nice wins against Pascal and Cloud.
Cause it was a very bad loss, almost Bute Froch. Not as physical, but he was mentally dominated. And it was totally avoidable, unlike Bute who had to make a move, it seemed like a bad idea to drop down to 168 to begin with. I thought Dawson was a likely HOF before this, now I'd be surprised if he got there. Chad was stupidly confident to take that fight at 168 in Oakland for 600k, he'd be a fool not to start questioning himself.
The problem is that the Ward fight was going to happen. Ward has maybe the Froch/Bute winner and almost nothing else. Magee? Dirrell? No one wants to see those. Maybe he waits out Chavez, but that's it. He'll be at 175 by Spring 2014. Chad could have waited and cleaned up 175 by then...and it would've been an enormous fight with Chad making easily a mil. His bad management convinced him to be a sacrificial lamb for Ward's HBO debut.
I think after seeing his performance against Ward these rumors have some truth to them. One of the main reason he looked bad is because of his opponent is that good, but there were rumors that he looked bad in camp and stopped by Miranda which hardly anyone believed because he had taken punches from better fighters at 175 lbs.
I agree. Going down to 168 was ill-advised. And looks like that poster who made the thread on Dawson getting knocked down in camp, was telling the truth.
