Just watched highlights heres a few observations: Canzoneri showed great ring generalship with a good jab which to me made him look in controll of the fight. Ross however was probably landing more shots with good combinations. In the trades Ross came off better with the sharper shots but Canzoneri controlled when and where they happened All in all a very close fight which those low blows were costly to Tony. From what i saw i thought Tony nicked it but obviously not. What was the reaction at the time? thoughts on the fight?
I going to pull the fight out, do snap shots. I suppose, Dont recall which was strip or which was not. I do recall Ross was on the right side of the screen. Corner wise of couse.
From what I've read, there seems to have been general agreement that Ross was the winner, although perhaps some disagreement over whether he won closely or by a wide margin. Most people seem to have felt the judge who scored for Canzoneri was off-base, and that Ross should've won a UD. The real significance of the win is that it basically "settled the score" after Ross took Canzoneri's title on a close and debated split decision in Ross' hometown. Ross gave Tony basically every concession in the rematch - 15 rounds, in New York, etc. - much the way Azumah Nelson did in the rematch with Fenech. That he was able to beat Tony on Tony's terms was probably the most significant aspect of the fight.
[yt]FwOJaqVbg60&feature=related[/yt] If this is the fight you're referring to, then Canzoneri is the one with the stripes, yes.
As the 8 mins show, Canzi is missing and Ross is landed the left jab more often than not. When tied up, Ross gives Canzi some more blows to the head. Relly have a hard time with how you had it so close.
