Agreed. Velasquez was all over him, but that was a premature stoppage. The tide of many one sided fights have been changed with one blow. Rothwell is a guy with that sort of power, I doubt his chances, but he should have been given the opportunity.
Exactly...at least let the guy go out on his shield fighting..not when hes still fresh and has his wits about him..
i dunno i thought he was lucky it didnt get stopped before, bad stoppage in a sense he wasent really hurt but a good one in the sense that Rothwell was not intelligently defending himself.
It was an excellent stoppage. Rothwell was exhausted and only going to take a prolongued beating. Great stoppage by the referee
They wanted velasquez to win. (but anyway , Rothwell was still getting owned). Who knows what might have happened ... I predict the same bull**** will happen to Carwin if he can't ko lesnar. They're not gonna let him win by decision or there's gonna be a bull**** premature stopage if they can do it...
Ref said before the start of the round that he wanted to see something and he couldn't keep taking punches. I think it was a mercy stoppage cos he felt that Rothwell could continue to survive a massive onslaught that may never stop.
Rothwell was done and was getting manhandled every way possible in there. He posed no threat to Velasquez.
It was early, would have made more sense to stop it at times during the first round of anything. He was getting blitzed but that particular point wasn't a good point to stop it.
The way I look at it is: was that a defensive posture or an "I don't even know what the hell I'm doing other than having my head pounded into the cage with my hands nowhere near my face" posture?
