Monzon was just a cruel sadistic type towards women...physical beatings were standard....ive never heard his background having anything to do with it in his case....some men are just evil and get off abusing women
Monzon was extremely poor growing up, and this was compounded by having 12 siblings. Even Monzon's gym (where he trained with Brussa for his whole career) was poor and used to suffer water seeping into the basement training level. He also couldn't afford his first marriage license iirc.
Carlos was one of 12 children in the Barrio of Santa Fe, Argentina. He shined shoes as a child, he learned to beat up other kids trying to take his earnings. He was discovered by trainer Amilcar Brusa, who ran a gym. But it does not excuse his beatings of women.
Someone who was on ESPN this summer, Helen Joseph, was apparently an orphan and was a female prizefighter in Lagos at age 14. Can only imagine what you go through after you end up there. "I struggled with no mother and no father. Anything I seen on the street is what I ate to survive. I see myself as the best because I train when I have no food in my stomach. I fight when I have no medical attention. I fight no matter what." https://www.boxinginsider.com/columns/helen-joseph-fighting-for-recognition/ The broadcast spent a good 5-10 minutes discussing the A-side fighter's story of overcoming adversity (a mother with a drinking problem IIRC, I don't mean to downplay it but it's on a different level) and then Andre Ward briefly discussed the whole orphan street fighting thing while they were getting going in the first round. I thought that was pretty shabby. Maybe tell a happy story about the A-side fighter if you are planning to brush over an opponent with a story like Joseph's.
