Just watched the fight again, crazy how they let him keep going. But prob the worst thing I just saw was his corner man actually say to him before sending him out in the 12th "give him everything you got, you have nothing to loose" I litterally got chills just hearing him say that, so sad :-(
sad talked to mago on fb before the fight he said it was a fight that would make or break him and he had to win
On a related note, Kovalev is a friend of Magos by accounts, has helped in fundraising efforts and went to visit him after beating Hopkins in Nov. http://www.proboxing-fans.com/sergey-kovalev-returns-home-meets-baby-krusher-visits-mago_111214/ Kovalev has spoken of the awareness, specially as a fighter who has ended someones life in the ring, of just how easily it could be himself or any other fighter being stretchered out at any time. I can understand how that kind of knowledge could very easily change a fighter, even make it hard to step between the ropes, as it seems to have done to many others, including, perhaps, Perez - who has never seemed the same fighter since the Mago fight.
John David Jackson (kov trainer) was in Mago's corner that night. He said the language barrier was partly to blame for him not being able to get through to Mago and Mago not being able to get through to him. There was a translator but nothing was being translated apparently. Real ****ed up situation
You're right, I just mistakenly typed 12 out of habit being it was the last round. Doesn't change the fact of what was said to him heading into the final round though, so thanks for being a doosh for no real reason
That is such a load of ****. Before he went out there the ring doctor was looking at him as if nothing was wrong, while John Jackson is yelling at him "go give him everything you got, you got nothing to loose!!!" And the round before even the HBO guys were saying how something in his face was clearly broken.
Hey man Im just relaying what the dude said in the interview. Magomed took far too many shots in that fight tho. He was getting beaten up from rd1-10 :-(
