WA boxer Danny Green has again held onto his treasured IBO cruiserweight title after one of the most farcical nights in Australian boxing history. His challenger Paul Briggs went down like a sack of potatoes after just 29 seconds when Green grazed the top of his head with a left jab at Challenge Stadium. Briggs shamefully collapsed, and stayed down, much to the sheer chagrin of Green and the crowd. Advertisement: Story continues below 34-year-old Briggs had to be helped from the ring and was quickly ushered out with a police escort as fans threw an assortment of beverages at the Gold Coast fighter. The fans were disgusted and so was Green. "Chill out," Green told the near-capacity stadium afterwards. "No one is as pissed off as me, believe me. "He ain't even a canine," Green said of Briggs. "Paul Briggs (isn't) getting paid a cent. "That's criminal what he just did. "I apologise to you for his behalf. I cant say anymore. "I'm feeling very, very angry. I'm a class above the guy you saw just then. "I'm extremely frustrated." Green promised to make it up to his fans with another fight. "I can't say sorry enough to you guys," he said. "I will make it up to you on that canine's behalf. This content is protected "Thank you Perth, Im sorry." New Zealand heavyweight Shane Cameron then stepped into the ring to give Green a fight, but the Green Machine politely declined because of the state he was in. So much for the fight going ahead in the first place after the NSW Combat Sports Authority refused to sanction the fight in Sydney. The Authority had concerns about Briggs health because he had not fought in three years. Green, 37, was pumped up and ready to destroy Briggs after the Queenslander weighed in over the agreed limit on Tuesday afternoon. Briggs weighed in at 87.2kg, more than 3kg over the limit for tonights cruiserweight fight. Green on the other hand went into the bout weighing 83.6kg. The bizarre win was Greens third successful defence of his IBO cruiserweight belt after claiming the vacant title in August last year against Julio Cesar Dominguez in the United States. He then took both Roy Jones jnr and Manny Siaca to the cleaners in comprehensive victories. ----------------------------------------------- The crowd is not happy. Loud jeers, every curse word in the dictionary is shouted out. Briggs is being led out of the arena in disgrace. A beverage splashes all over him on the way out. Police rush up the stairs to apprehend the marksman, who is applauded by the crowd. Surreal scenes here at Challenge Stadium. 29 seconds into the first round. Green is not happy, and neither are his fans. "Chill out, No one is as pissed off as me, believe me" Green tells his upset fans. "Paul Briggs ain't going to be paid a cent. "That's criminal what he just did. "I apologise to you for his behalf. I can't say anymore. "I'm feeling very very angry." Shane Cameron jumps into the ring and volunteers to fight Green to give something back to the fans. "I will give you the toughest fight ... ," Cameron says. Green says another time, he is just not in the mood. Well, I guess that's all folks. Thanks for tuning in. Stand by for a recap of the night's "action". http://www.nowboxing.com/2010/07/wa...briggs-quick-ko-did-briggs-take-a-dive/12189/

what size gloves do they wear in the tents? 10's? and how ****ing small was the ring for hoppa v edwards!!
When I had a go in the tents in Birdsville in '95, we wore JRE 12's. That ring certainly is small, no where to hide in there.
Do you remember the old league days when we had to fight in 8'oz. Alot of people wouldnt belive you if ya told em amateurs back in 1995 were wearing the same oz gloves as the pros. I think the league was the only mob doing it.
that ring looked like it would fall apart if hoppa leaned on the ropes too much..did he think the fight was still going when the ref called it?
A few years back but watch this blokes raw power, his style reminds me a lot of Kostya Tszyu.!!!! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ntb4A05okU[/ame]
