Your opinion on it. Should such scoring exist, or should it be abolished? It would be nice to complete the post with a video of which round was scored 10:10. Or which round was scored 10:10, and it shouldn't have been.
It's opinionated though, and the reality is if the judges believe the round is too close to differentiate, an even round is perfectly fair, otherwise they'll just start guessing. You may say they shouldn't need to do that if they know how to do their job, but judges often disagree and score fights very differently, which is why we often have split decisions. Even rounds are perfectly fair if a judges doesn't see enough between the two fighters to warrant giving one man the round. There may not be such a thing as an even round, but judges are human, and humans have their own opinions, and it's very difficult if not impossible to really determine a winner of a specific round sometimes. 10-10 rounds are fine.
If a fight has an even round it's very likely that another round will also be even So I split the rounds between both. Smart work around. Did it plenty of times for Marquez Pacquiao.
Obviously, no round is 100% exactly even but there are plenty of rounds that are extraordinarily close. If at the end of the round you have to force yourself to pick a winner then it should be scored even.
If the momentum of the fight isn't affected by the result of the round and no major event happened in the round I think it's fair to call a 10-10. I think it's easier for 10-10 rounds in really inactive fights, really active fights with tons of ebb and flow with no clear "better punches," and style clash type fights where both did the same amount of good work but in different ways (e.g. precision vs volume, effective body punching vs fewer head shots).
Sometimes I'll throw in a 10-8 round if one of my guys is trailing on my scorecard or is in need of rounds to secure the win. Even if they haven't scored a KD or they lost the round big I'll still do it. But just in case anyone thinks that's biased I'll also often do the same for the opponent of a fighter I dislike even if I'm not a fan of their opponent either
There's enough criteria for scoring that an even round should be extremely rare. 1st you have clean effective punches. No effective punches in the round, then you go to effective aggression. No aggressor? Then you go to defense. No defense being displayed, you go to ring generalship. So scoring is going to be different from judge to judge, but in almost every round you'll find a guy that did at least one of the criteria better than the other.
I think so, but only in rounds that feature few punches landed or rounds that feature both fighters being down. Scoring a round 10-10 later in a fight should be frowned upon.
