Do you think they should employ this type of scoring, so that each boxer is aware whether they are winning or losing? Some say Boxing is the only sport where the "score" is not known. I feel this takes away from the drama and may make a boxer lose focus (if he is ahead).

Open scoring sucks. Yes, it takes away from the drama. The only time it can provide a benefit is when it's a boxer vs a slugger, and the slugger starts going for the kill because he's too far behind. I think the point was to allow fighters to retire when they're hopelessly behind, and thus prevent brain injury, but any fighter worth his salt wouldn't do that anyway.

Yeah that pretty much cancels out the argument that the guy behind would go for the KO znd make the last round more exciting. In fact I think there would be so much running and holding that it would be much less exciting.

The premise is that it would keep the judges honest. If they get booed would they give in to crowd pressure? Honest, accurate scoring would be best in all scenarios.

Didn't we see an example of how bad an idea this really is last year? I don't recall the fight, but I seem to recal a circumstance...

Oh ya, Urkal's corner quitting against Cotto.

I remember seeing a bout that did scoring after the 4th and 8th rd. That was interesting b/c the fighters couldn't run like they would if the scoring was after every round. Obviously if a fighter is down 7-1 he would swing for the fences but when the fight is close you would like to know where the judges heads are at. The first big fight of 08 could have used this system.

Yeah, they knew they were massively behind, didn't like their man getting roughed up, and pulled him out.

The same when JT fought Ouma, it was open scoring and JT knew he was ahead and so fought even more pedestrianly than he was already.

Open scoring is fine for TEAM sports, but in boxing its ONE on ONE.

It is dangerous, if you had a hometown favourite getting hammered from pillar to pst for every round, would you as a judge score the right way, with 15,000 fanatics around you?

At least with the result being announced at the end, the judges can get out of dodge, if there is suspected to be trouble....

It sucks. At first I thought I'd like it but it completely takes the drama out of a fight. Cotto-Urkal was one time but more notably the Jean Mark Mormeck- Oneil Bell fight would have been WAY better had the scores been announced ONLY at the end of the final round.
