Anyone else done these as part of there training? A pt introduced them to me and Iv literally never done anything as hard training wise.

500 metre sprints on a high setting on a concept rower. Level 8 or above.

I partnered up with someone after doing a weights routine Olympic lifts only for 30 to 40 mins then went onto the rower.

Take it in turns so you can push each other on go absolute flat out as fast as possible for the full 500 metres once ones finished the other jumps on try and do this 5 times keeping the time under 2 mins each time. The first time you do this it feels like your hearts going to burst out especially after weights.

It got me thinking why people don't do this more in amatuer boxibg training? If you can blast 5 500 m rows one after another with a break in between then 3 x 2's or 3 x 3's won't seem so hard.

I'm looking forward to my next fight Im only a novice amatuer 5th fight coming up but Iv literally never been so well prepared after doing these 3 times a week mon we'd friday plus 5km run tues n Thursday

Rowing is a *****, in a good somewhat painful way.

Boxers don't do it because they think running is magical.

Tough workout. Bores me senseless though.

Would far rather hit the airdyne for a few minutes if I want to get wrecked..

To be honest Iv seen bigger changes in my fitness levels doing this Im not a naturally fit person I have to work at it so hard and if I let it slip my fitness seems to leave me quickly! But Iv never got this fit before and it's low impact no pounding concrete!

It takes effort going into that gym 3 times a week knowing that you are about to nearly kill your self lol but it's worth it

I hear you but I don't think you have time to get bored with 500 sprints it's truly horrible.

Iv never actually had a go on a airdyne it looks tough though

    :good

Keep up the good work mate. Agree re the impact too in your earlier post. Rowing doesn't feel at all natural to me, but each to his own, and no doubt one hell of a workout.

    Rowing is so brutal.

I really rate Rowers. They look like Bodybuilders yet they're muscle is ridiculously functional. They are animals, cardio-wise.

    I won't touch a C2 Rower. Too tough, I'll be honest! :lol::lol:

Sounds like I need to start rowing now..
Would be interesting to see what it strengthens.

It strengthens legs, core, arms, back, hips..

I'd say it was more of a strength/cardio endurance workout than a muscle building one.

Concept 2's are bloody uncomfortable imho.

Yeah it is tough your right. But I think you come away feeling like youv bern through hell without actually giving your body a pounding in a strange away. I use to just do either 5k runs or sprints and my legs and knees the next day would feel ruined these rowing sprints have been a godsend.

Althought it's hard to motivate yourself to go to the gym knowing your about to put yourself through it. You feel sick the room spins etcetc and the worst thing is the fitter you get you just pull more so you end up the same it never gets easier

It's truly a workout for those who are serious

Give it a go it's great. The first 500m row you do wipes you out but dig deep. Iv been doing them for 12 weeks 3 mornings a week after Olympic lifts or S&C it's took me that long to get to the point were myself and my training partner can do 5 in a row back to back pushing each other on and keeping them at all a similar time.

My trainers at the gym have been blown away by my condition improvements it helps with boxing it really does. If you can do 5 of these like I say fighting 2 or 3 rounds will not compare in terms of energy you need.

    I agree.

I've come off a Rower absolutely fried. I mean, done. Not an ounce of energy left in me. Feeling nauseous, sick, literally can't speak.

It's not for the inexperienced or the faint-hearted. You have to be physically and mentally strong to Row really well.

Do you box then or do you do boxing training? We all agree that it's a horrible but great workout but do you think it's good for boxing?

Personally it's done wonders for my training sparring seems an easy workout in terms of my breathing it's a cake walk compared to the rowing sprints Im doing 3 times a week. Because Im not breathing heavy during sparring it's making me more comfortable in there and Im trying different things and improving quickly.

Bearing In mind Im still doing two 5k runs a week also at a fast as possible pace Im sure this is also the reason I'm feeling fit combining the two.

Yes I do Box, but I haven't used a Rower in years if the truth be told.

It did help my endurance and it did increase my mental strength (train hard, fight easy).

Yeah, the 5k's are definitely helping you. I'd keep the as well, just for the Aerobic side of things to be maintained outside of Boxing ;-)
