That was good. I am sad that people are going to forget how dominant Roy was in his career by how things turned out for him late.

No. It was about egos. Both would have never agreed on anything the other would have said just because it would have come from the other. Until they needed each other. I blame beither fighter for not making this one happen.

Their actual second fight was meaningless. a joke, a media gag, an exhibition and nothing more. I said so before the fight and I say so now.

i don't think that'll be the case unless the person doesn't know jack **** about boxing. at the end of the day i can name you many greats that eventually retired after carrying on looking like a shell of his former self, and roy just adds on to that increasing list.

Hopkins is a bottom feeder, this is common knowledge. RJJ was a superstar back then, Bernard was virtually unknown in the mainstream and fighting taxi cab drivers apart from Tito, yet declines a 60/40 split to rematch a guy he clearly lost to. That's just ridiculous..

That's the one thing you've got to say about certain fighters, take the lower percentage in order to get the fight made. If you believe you're the better man and it isn't just about the pay day.

:deal and in Roy's case, he was the official best, not the other way around.

I always blamed Hopkins for the rematch not happening earlier. Not only was RJJ the bigger attraction, he had already clearly beaten Hopkins. The only thing RJJ had left to prove in a rematch was if he could beat Hopkins with two hands instead of one. Hopkins needed the remath for his legacy and 60-40 was fair but he continually scoffed at it. It was a smart business move, as it would probably have resulted in a loss for Hopkins and he continued making money beating top guys outside their best weight classes (Oscar, Winky, Pavlik). But yeah, black mark on his legacy for me.
