In 20 fights from 98 to 08, a dozen of those fights were against southpaws in title fights!

Maybe he just forgot how to defend against rightys right hands and that's why he got knocked out against Glencoffe, Green and the Russian etc. lack of experience for 10 years against orthodox fighters (apart from grossly/hideously limited Kelly/Woods/Ruiz/Lacy)!

Roy got his ass handed to him by a Southpaw on 4 different occasions.... Most of the Southpaws he fought during his prime were bums....

Eric Harding was useful. Reggie Johnson still had a little left.

Why does everyone forget that Roy beat Tarver in the 1st match? The only reason seems to be because it was the first time anyone had given him a relatively competitive fight in years.

And the ones he lost to, Jones was past his prime and washed up.

It was a close fight and Tarver basically threw the fight away by not being active enough. Roy dug deep to get the win, while Tarver half arsed his way yet still almost won.

Though I think Tarver's tactics rather than his southpaw stance is what gave Roy so much trouble that night. He fought a very similar strategy to Griffin in his first fight with Jones Jr. Take control of centre ring, be patient, jab and feint to make Roy lead and then counter and when Roy is near the ropes go on the attack and then get out when you stop throwing don't be there to be countered. The difference between Griffin and Tarver was when Jones Jr gave up trying to counter and went in for the KO, Tarver had the power to hurt him while Griffin didn't.

I disagree. Roy Killed Tarver to the body in the first fight and it paid dividends in the final rounds. People were too busy noticing Roy get touched up to the face for the first time to notice the beating he was giving Tarver's body.

Lou Del Valle knocked Jones down

    Tarver brutally KOed him

I was hoping Jones would sign the contract and fight Corrie Sanders that would have been another savage KO loss for Roy.

You have to remember the level of fighter Jones was fighting in that time frame. None of them were World beaters. Once his competition level picked up he started getting KOed in just about every fight.

Because he didn't beat him anywhere near as convincingly as he beat other opponents. I'm not even sure if Jones deserved to get the decision in their 1st fight. That's the reason why I wasn't surprised when Tarver beat him.

Jones was 35 when he started going downhill. You don't get major props for beating that Jones. Not a Jones coming back down to lhw either.
