Sorry but Jones faded because of the weight loss, not because of Tarvers body attack. Jones had never hit the wall in a fight before until that 7th round in the first fight with Tarver.
You are missing his point.. He is crediting Roy's body attack on Tarver as to why Tarver had to take breaks in the fight and was even hesitant at times to follow Jones to the ropes where Tarver was having all his success... Jones ripped Tarver to the body all fight, with very hard power shots... (I believe Roy outlanded Tarver in power shots) and they were mostly all to the body.. That was a vicious body assault, that gets overlooked because Roy was actually in a fight for the first time. I watched the fight several times, and didn't find it all that controversial.. I scored it clearly for Roy, it was close though.
My point exactly. Roy put a beating on Tarver's body in that fight. Add to that the fact Tarver never had very high output to begin with and you can see why Jones outpointed him down the stretch.
Good point and my bad Janes. I read it like Tarver took it to Roy's body for some reason lol... I went into defend Roy mode lol. My bad.
At the end when Tarver was bragging that his big fat lips were not even busted I always wanted to ask him how his abdomen and ribs felt, because he sure was wincing in pain and flinching everytime Roy even looked like he was going to punch.
Jones-Tarver 1 had to be one of the most overrated "controversial" fights ever. Give credit to Roy for his bodywork, or criticize Tarver for not being willing to take enough risks and "walk through the fire" or whatever, but Tarver didn't win it and was fortunate to receive a rematch after losing a close but clear decision.
I remember the one-round, one-punch body shot KO of Glenn Wolfe on the Toney-Barkley undercard. Left hook. Was devastating.
