With all do respect, the Glen Johnson that you don't know, gave Jones a way bigger beat down 4 years prior to Calzaghe, and managed to stay on his feet the whole time. If you think Calzaghe gave Jones one of the biggest beat downs in an American ring, you don't know boxing that well. Maybe you should watch the Johnson Jones fight, It will make what Calzaghe did seem less impressive.:deal

Come on Headbanger, Jones and Lacy are not comparable, you are more reasonable than that surely. Calzaghe did expose Lacy as a lot of hype. And even "IF" Jones was a hbo hype job, and blinded us Americans to the truth like you say, it was Tarver and Johnson that "Lacyied" him years earlier, not Calzaghe.

that's a really good point. johnson's performance was WAY more impressive against a better version of jones. of course calzaghe fans will say "he carried him 12 rounds to make it more impressive a beatdown". just like calzaghe let himself get knocked down to demonstrate he has the heart of a lion and the balls of a bull

It's well known that Roy took the **** with that contract. HBO well and truly ****ed up, they learnt their lesson.

 

i think it's fair to say that lacy is no johnson. calzaghe ruined him and he was very highly regarded at the time but part of what makes a great champion is coming back from adversity. johnson has done it time and time again, lacy couldn't

They both got beat bad by Joe, but that is the only thing comparable. Jones is far superior to Lacy always, and Lacy was a prime fighter that was supposed to be the next best thing when Joe beat him. Jones was known to be completely shot, for years. That is the main reason I don't like that comparison. A better comparison would be a still great fighter totally outclassing a once great fighter, when someone says "Lacyied" I get the feeling that they believe Jones is on Lacy's level as pretty much a hype job, which is not the case at all in my opinion.
