FACT-Bernard STILL wants none of Roy and was scholled on radio FACT-nearly all of Bernards best wins are cathcweight wins vs smaller fighters--now he might even want williams! Seeya!
Not a fact, that's your own interpretation of a fairly bad radio "interview". He's fought in three catchweight fights. Once against DLH where he dropped to 156. And then two against Winky and Pavlik where the catchweight was 170.
Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but hey, this is a discussion board. Mega Threads have been created out of much less speculation than this particlar instance, where you actually have the two fighters involved communicating directly with one another. If the 60/40 discussion had ended without 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser being thrown in, I'd say, fair enough! Turn around is fair play, and Bernard is in the driver's seat. Furthermore, Bernard wasn't exactly being "Put on the Spot" by Roy, because they have had this discussion before. I remember in a Press Conference before the trinidad fight, Bernard's name came up and Roy explained the exact same thing -- he offered Bernard 60 to the winner, and 40 to the loser.
Are you sure about this? I remember that infamous teleconference following the Carl Daniels fight where Roy was insistent on a 60/40 split in his favour. It seems unlikely Roy would offer a better deal to Hopkins before the Trinidad fight.
I have to admit, the Williams thing is a total joke. Bernard wants this guy to come up to 170 ? That's almost as bad as Roy vs Tito.
[yt]F63A2UBOIvQ[/yt] Starts about 1:25 ish I think.. Oh I see what you meant.. you meant Bernard's fight with Tito.. My bad. Anyways, here's Roy on record talking about 60 to the winner, 40 to the loser.
Right, that's why I'm saying, Bernard had the right to turn the tables on Roy, but notice nowhere in the discussion you posted, was there discussion about 60 to the winner, 40 to the loser. And we speculate all we want about what Roy would say to that, but we don't have the actual conversation, unlike the one we got yesterday.
The point is, the conversation I posted was after Hopkins had beaten Trinidad (it was actually after the Daniels fight, but you see my point) whereas Jones was talking to the press when Hopkins was already in a fight. What Jones said yesterday could be construed anyway you want but I would really like someone to list me names of fighter who have accepted winner takes more or all deals.
I think this 60-40 for the winner is better and fair for the two oldies which only goes they both have respect to each other that either way could pull a victory. But IMO Hopkins will obviously win over Roy, the fight will be far different from the first encounter, BHop though also in age is now too good for Jones.
The only way this fight gets made is if Jones dominates say Danny Green and fights and wins against the winner of Dawson /Johnson 2 ..If and when that happens there will still be the matter of the split ..Hopefully they agree on a split of 50-50 all that happns in order to get this fight ..
hopkins is seriously stupid, his talking about mcnab and how he looked him straight in the eyes and watched leave, hinting he somehow won the" im the most man contest" between them is pitifull. yeah hopkins, a world class boxer made a man on crutches leave, im really impressed. sounds more like a schoolyard punk, then a world class fighter.
