I was never a fan of Clinton Woods, but have felt a bit bad for him recently. Clinton Woods was a SMW in Britain who went up to LHW after losing to D Starie. Woods travelled to America to face Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver and Tavoris Cloud in his career and came up short each time. Clinton Woods, according to Boxing News, says Woods claims that testing barely existed in America when he was active. Woods was quoted in Boxing News as saying " This content is protected " Woods continued with " This content is protected " Now Woods was never a very top fighter but could fight on even terms with fighters like G Johnson, but obviously didnt like cheating and if he knew to question what he takes, its shocking that a superstar professional would just take an over the counter product. Do you now feel bad for Woods in that two of the three times he travelled to America the first two fighters fighters he faced have had question marks over their careers when it comes to taking something they perhaps shouldnt have at some point in their careers I do feel bad for Woods in that respect. Dont you?
steroid use does seem particluar rife in american fighters but don't let it ever be mistaken, the likes of jones, tarver, mosley, peterson, holyfield, berto, toney etc know exactly what they are doing when they take these products and the sad truth is that these american fighters are perhaps only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the real truth about how many american fighters were cheating throughout the 90s and 2000s. with regards to woods, he was a very poor fighter tbf, he reminds me of glen johnson in many ways that he couldn't hack it in a superior 168 division and had to move to 175 to fight lesser competition to get a title. got to give woods credit though, despite his very poor skillset, he still won a world title and was prepared to travel abroad and fight as a clean athlete despite many of his cheating opponents training & fighting with the use of PED's because they had no conscience and were not happy testing themselves in the ring on a level playing field. Maybe its just part of the american culture where this kind of cheating is considered acceptable?
Good post bailey. Although Woods was very limited, he fought with honour and courage. What I cannot fathom is why boxing fans continue to sweep drug cheating under the carpet. I have read so many laughable posts from delusional fans defending their heroes. "He didn´t know what he was taking", "It was part of an over-the-counter supplement", "It was his nutritionist´s fault" etc etc.. All of these pitiful excuses are seen on ESB on a regular basis.atsch One thing I have noticed. Is it a coincidence that American boxers flounder when OSDT is in place, a la the Olympics??:think Thank goodness for Money May: the leading light on drug testing and the last bastion of American dignity.:deal
On a side note, did you know that Clinton Woods ducked an exhibition match with ESB´s very own Anglosaxon?:deal
Clinton Woods has a big pair of bollocks, and would fight anybody. He went to America in 2002 and fought a near peak version of Roy. He also went over and fought Tarver, and had three fights with Johnson. Meanwhile your boy Calzone was hiding in Wales, demanding the crown jewels, and telling everyone he wanted the big fights, but couldn't get them. Clinton deserves a huge amount of respect. Joe's just a complete joker! The end.
Good post. I had a soft spot for Clinton Woods too. He was straight-up and the Hoye fihgt as a real thrill for me. If I remember rightly it was on the BBC? ****ing isn't on YT, disgraceful.
Is there any video Evidence of Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver taking steroids? If not, Shut the **** up son.
With steroid use, the best case scenario is one of gross negligence. The worst is one of deliberate cheating. Look at enzo, saying he wasn't aware, well it's his job to be aware. No excuse. That being said i'm a believer in innocent until proven guilty so like with toney, tarver, peterson, i'd strike off the fight they tested positive for but keep the rest of their career as it is. Maybe it's naive of me but that's how I see it.
maybe. i think part of it is that ideology of winning at all costs. the amount some of these athletes dedication is beyond fanatical and will inevitably overlap on whats not within the rules. the amount of american fighters and athletes who say prefer to have a bad win than a great loss is just an example of the mentality. it's not the fight it's the statistics.
