UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva wants to fight Roy Jones.

“Anderson really would love to fight Roy Jones, Jr. in a boxing match,” says his manager, Ed Soares, confirming recent speculation. “It’s not just talk, we really would like to put that fight together.”

That’s not to say the Silva discounts Jones’ abilities. Both he and Jones are often argued as being the best pound-for-pound fighter in their respective sports. But Silva feels that fighters in mixed martial arts are often unjustly criticized as not being as technically proficient as their boxing counterparts, a misconception that he would like to dispel.

“We respect Jones’ boxing ability and think he’s one of the best,” said Soares, “but we’re tired of different boxers saying that MMA fighters aren’t technical. Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match under boxing rules to prove that MMA fighters are technical, too.”

This could be real funny if Silva beats him!!!! Jones is so far past it, why doesn't he call out Calzaghe?

I don't know **** about Anderson but if he really is p4p the best MMA guy he might have a decent chance against Roy. I mean roy is way past it. but I would have to deffer to someone who knows if this guy is a good striker or not before Id make a call. But I can envisions a senario where an MMA guy beat a past it formerly good boxer.

In a boxing match, Roy Jones beats any non boxer, wheather Roy is 39, 49, or uses one arm with both legs in a potato sack.

Roy is a lesser fighter nowadays. If he calls out a nobody it won't mean ****. Roy is a big name in boxing and way past his prime, he is actually perfect.

Well, the thing is, no one is going to take him seriously. Boxers have a lot more star power. Roy is still a top 10 fighter, so yer, he would take this guy to school, embarass him.

Even in a K1 style match with no takedowns or subs Silva wins this, but without kicks and with queensbury rules, Roy should stop him even at his age.

if silva put on gloves and fought roy under boxing rules. roy would just make silva look stupid. anderson silva is a tough guy who fights well striking & wrestling.
but no match for jones in his respective sport. this would be a great look for boxing imo.

Silva probably has the best boxing skills out of everyone else in UFC. he is one of the few that does not look completly amaturish when he punches
