Nothing to do with getting older or being knocked out. The early,
very young Jones was a very classy guy, both respectful to his
opponents and a good interview. He showed a lot of respect to
Toney in a pre-fight interview and Toney started throwing around
insults and being an ass and Roy just looked at him and finally
replied, "I'll be your huckleberry." Just a cool, class individual
reminiscent of Sugar Ray Leonard. Proud and confident but
    classy and no braggart.

No, its really two giants fighting each other. Roy is so great of a boxer and a true master, he knows another great when he sees one, and is just giving respect. This fight is gonna be better than most people think. I think its gonna be a great.

Very true. Jones has been commenting about and praising Joe Cal's
boxing skills for at least a decade now. Both fighters are very
fast and it is only natural that they would respect each others
unique physical gifts. Both Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Leonard
have also spoken very highly of Joe's boxing ability and those two
    don't agree on much.

I'm pulling for Roy, but he does seem to have traces of self doubt still, of course.

When asked if Roy was capable of stopping Calzaghe he said he "hadn't knocked anybody out in 8 years" and that "he just hopes to win." He anticipates Calzaghe throwing alot of punches, and he says he won't throw as many, but he'll throw some "good punches." Roy is sounding very businesslike about this all, maybe too much so. I'm sure he's desperate to win, though.

Roy's oppinion of Calzagh is completely opposite of Hopkins oppinion.

Need we say that Hopkins oppinion is pure rubbish?

Either that, or Roy is trying to put an excessively positive spin on everything because he's pulling double duty as both the attraction, and the co-promoter and business partner of Joe Calzaghe for this event. Behind closed doors I'm sure Roy probably thinks Calzaghe looked pretty awkward and crude in the Hopkins fight, and says as much, plainly and directly. Roy Jones' views on this sport are well known from his many years as a commentator on HBO. Roy will also be doing commentary work for Setanta in the future, so he's not about to slag **** about Calzaghe with future business to carry on in the UK - not to mention talk of his alleged hopes for a second fight with Calzaghe in Cardiff or London, depending on how the first one plays out.

Roy is old now. He knows he isn't what he used to be, but just trying to survive among the best names out there. He has to be more media friendly now, and in addition, he seems to want to promote his more recent fights now, like he did against Tito. Leading up to the Tito fight, he made it seem like Tito was actually going to be competitive.

Well, if he ever were to start talking as if he used to, one will just remind him of his fight against Johnson.

Jones has seriously mellowed and knows he isn't what he was. In a way, I find it endearing and slightly saddening.

He's just desperate to sell the fight; remember, Americans couldn't give a fig about Calzaghe...he's not a draw. Secondly, RJJ is trying to sweeten Calzaghe up because he's desperate for the rema$ch in Cardiff.
