Roy Jones was the only one on the commentary team who understood what was going on in that ring. Lampley and Merchant showed a shocking lack of knowledge and just seemed pissed off that they had to be there. Its amazing how many people here are influenced by what commentators say because it serves their agenda. Are you people aware that Wlad didn't land one single punch until the end of the 3rd round?
are you fuking serious??! Lmao, this is probably the first time he's heard RJJ commentating. first off the HBO crew is in no way better than the showtime crew. let's get that out of the way. you obviously don't watch too many fights. I can't believe some people think Merchant and Lampley are good. Lampley has been on HBO for ages it seems like and he's horrible! doesn't know a fuking thing about the sport. Merchant is a blabbering idiot who seems to have a cult following here for some reason. miss the days when Gil Clancy would put the senile idiot in place.
Foreman was terrible I cant believe anyone liked him or wants him back. He's ****in clueless. I'm not sure who I hate more on the mic him or Teddy Atlas. The only thing he was good for was fighting with Larry.
agreed. OP is fuking ******ed for wanting Foreman back. he was only good for a few laughs. someone like RJJ actually provides technical analysis
RJJ has a reputation for not doing his pre-fight research. (Apparently he doesnt even research the names of the fighters.) Lampley is sometimes clownish and a bit of a cheerleader. Merchant is geezin' but hes a boxing historian and comes up with some clever stuff every so often. Plus hes from my hometown (Philly) so I like him. The Showtime crew is far superior. Tarver is the best. He's still polishing his chops, but he does his pre-fight homework. Don't get me started on Teddy Atlas.
RJJ is a slurring, twitching abomination who did his usual hatchet job on one of the Klitschko's. The guy cannot distinguish between the two brothers and was claiming that Wlad was already tired in the second round. I know hating the Klitschko's appeals to so many of you, so naturally amy reasonable critique of RJJ's color commentary would have fallen on death ears, so I intentionally avoided doing one.
He has been in this business since he was 6 y/o. He was a HW titlist at the same time as Wladimir and was there for Vitali's lawnmowered face by Lewis. Yet.............. He can NEVER say one or the other's name correctly. WTF Roy. Your my boy and all, and I was your biggest nuthugger of the 90s, but cmon man.......this is your life. At least remember the names of the two biggest Hws of our generation.:-(
Sign Paulie up! He'd actually make a great commentator. 100x Better than the crap HBO has going on now.
Nah I like Roy, slurs a bit sometime but his analysis is usually dead on or close to it., get rid of Mannys old bitter ass, get rid of Lewis he just talks about what he would do, which never applies to anyone else. I love Larry for nostalgia purposes but he gotta go. Max used to be a G so he's cool, I'm sure he still got some G in there somewhere. Foreman was hilarious, his argument with Larry about Oscars shoulder size was ****in gold. But nah man, keep Roy, we don't want him boxing anymore, what else he gonna do?
Don't get too much sand in your vagina. I watch a fight I don't need a techinical analysis, as I am seeing what is happening myself. I want to hear a colorful and interesting and entertaining commentary. Don't act like Foreman or any of the other HBO guys can't provide enough of that. The only thing RJJ is good at is twitching his head when he talks like he is in a rapping contest.
RJJ gives the viewer an insight to the boxer's tactics and analysis the fight, which is what i want. BTW, why did Big George go?
