Say Jones moves up to heavy and fights a prime Liston for the title. Could Jones pull it off. Liston had trouble landing the kill shot on quick movers and Jones would be the quickest of them all. Machen with his speed and movement survived the distance with prime Liston and he was the same size as Jones at HW. Could Jones go one better and win a decision over Liston?

Cant see it. He cant hurt Liston. Listons jab alone will cause jnr serious problems. His speed will keep him out of harms way a little while, but hes gonna feel that power sooner or later and crumble. Infact I think Liston hurts him brutally !

Jones' speed will help but at some point Liston would really hurt Jones. Liston knocks Jones unconscious mid-rounds I think.

As tough as Liston was, prime RJJ makes Liston look silly similar to how C Clay beat him in their first fight. (less jabs than CC but the speed and movement of RJJ would give Liston the same kind of problems CC gave him)

Prime RJJ would outbox Liston, and possibly stop Liston. The RJJ that fought Ruiz though probably wasn't the absolute best version of RJJ (in terms of speed at least) so that version vs the Liston that fought CC would be a hell of a fight but I'd still favor RJJ.

Don't get me wrong, RJJ would be one of the only fighters in history that I'd confidently favor to beat Liston.

Jones wouldn't of gone anywhere near Liston realistically. He would scare the absolute life out of him !

This. Roy was a joke above 175. Handpicking Ruiz and ducking back down to 175 doesn't say much. Floyd Patterson would knock Roy cold let alone Liston.

Yeah both would crush him thinking about it. Pattersons fast left hook would lay Roy out at some stage and Liston, well Liston would ruin him

Pick Roy to beat Liston. He was fast and athletic like Ali.

I am not saying Roy would dominate Liston like Ali, Ali has a obvious height, strength and weight advantage unlike Roy.

Roy would have to run like bolt all night even then I can't see him making it half way one mistake and he is toast.

I think people do underestimate Jones speed in this matchup

Patterson would be able to match Jones for speed. Remember, Johannson flattened Machen in 1 round after Machen took prime Liston the distance. You could make an argument that Patterson may have had an easier time vs Jones than would Liston.

Marvis beat Smith more decisively than did Tyson, but we saw what happened when Marvis got in the ring with Tyson.

Funnily enough that was the exact knockout I had in mind. Brutal.

It would have been possible, but realistically, I'm saying no.

Ali taunted him, and he was very offensive.

I don't think Roy would have fought him in that manner at all.

I think he'd have been very defensive.

He wouldn't have fought him with Ali's mindset.

I can't envisage any scenario where he'd have stopped him.
