If he was the same size as those guys (and in his prime), I'd definitely back him to beat Mayweather. The style matchup suits Jones. I do think Pac might be a harder matchup for him, stylistically...a fast, aggressive southpaw who throws combinations with power.

    Timing beats speed...always.

Prime Floyd beats Prime Roy......All Roy had was uncanny speed and in Roy case, his power came from his speed.

Roy won most of his fight because his speed was always there, once his speed left him....HE COULDN'T ADJUST.

This is why Hopkins is still able to compete at the top level now because he has other fundamentals and he technically sound.

Roy made SO MANY technical mistakes but was able to get away with them because of his speed.

Floyd (in my eyes) is the best adjuster in a boxing ring in the last 20 years. There is a reason why this man is still undefeated to this day....he has seen all styles.

He been in there with speedsters, brawlers, pressure fighters, power punchers, boxer-punchers, puncher-boxers, etc....you name it, he seen it all.

I think Prime Roy was be out-speeding Floyd in the beginning, Prime Floyd would figure him out and shut him down.

Again I've never seen Roy adjust in a fight that wasn't going his way to come back and win..Floyd has done it countless times.

Prime Floyd has more in his arsenal than Prime Roy....

One more thing, Prime Toney is not Prime Floyd....again Toney lost fights in his prime because he doesn't know how to adjust when things are not going his way (defense does not do it alone)...Floyd mind is always thinking, he will figure you out...Toney is not an adjuster.

As for Roy-Manny....I don't know...Manny is pretty fast himself and Prime for Prime, I think Manny has more power.

agree. and at that size its doubtful anyone would punch hard enough to hurt jones.
jones probably a little weary about pac because of tarver and his southpaw style. so he sees his weakness against lefty fighters that throw STRAIGHT punches like pac

floyd would have 2 much for roy, I don't see how any knowledgable fight fan could come to any other conclusion.

we know that the very first time that roy was tested for anabolic steroids in his professional boxing career that he was found to have 6 times the normal amount of testosterone in his body. to judge roy as a clean fighter, he must only be judged in his fights after the richard hall fight.

mayweather has far too many major advantages for roy to deal with.

    - defence = thats not even a contest, floyd is arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time, where as a clean roy jones trying to rely on athleticism as his defence would leave to a whole world of trouble against a slick craftsman like money mayweather.

    - chin = for a fighter with poor defence, roy has an awful chin. floyds speed and accuracy ensures that he lands on the button all night, peppering roys jaw with crisp, lightenning right hands. in turn, if roy managed to penetrate floyds wonderfull defence, then floyd has one of the great iron-chins in boxing today having never been knocked down in his career.

adaptability - floyd works opponents out with a wonderfull ring IQ, floyd can fight backwards, he can fight coming forwards, he can fight on the outside, he can fight in the trenches on the inside. if plan A isn't working, floyd can adapt to plan B with consumate ease to find the solution with mouth watering versatility. with regards to roy jones, if plan A isn't working, he's got nowhere to go, bar the canvas on a trip to la-la land.

fighting in adversity - this is one of the most important aspects of the fight game, it seperates the men from the boys, the good from the great. whenever mayweather has faced adversity in his career or stared defeat in the eye, he has come roaring back like a true champion against the likes of mosley, ODLH, castillo, judah. floyd has a massive will power (like calzaghe, leonard, ali) to produce his best work when the going gets tough, where as when roy jones stares defeat in the face, he bends over and takes it up the shitpipe, folding like a lawn chair.

if the 2 fought, jones may get some early success on the outside but money mays far superior ring IQ would work jones out, mayweather would adapt style to find holes in roys work, by the 6/7th round, moneys laser like right hand would be landing with delicious precision and frequency to the delight of the packed auditorium, and by the 10th round roy would have folded like a lawn chair and got his glass jaw smashed against the corner post in a similar fashion to crude slugger ricky hatton.

Floyd wouldn't beat Jones. A defensive boxer type with a low workrate? Jones would be comfortable moving around on the outside, using his faster hands and combinations before moving away again. Floyd could try walking him down, but that strategy won't work here, because he tries to potshot behind a high guard, so Jones doesn't really have to worry about combinations coming his way. Prime Jones has the reflexes to deal with single shots and he'll land counters of his own to keep Floyd from getting too confident.

Floyd is more skilled, especially in defence, and I regard him as the more complete and better fighter overall, but in terms of styles I don't really see how he copes with Jones.

Riigghhttt!!!! Floyd and his brittle hands would get KTFO by a prime RJJ. LOL, this is too funny. Prime Jones did not have a glass jaw. Just because he got KTFO after he got old doesn't mean that's the case. Like I said before SRL got KTFO twice when he was old and washed up, so WTF makes his chin any better, except he was smart enough to quit fighting unlike RJJ. I don't think anyone, who wasn't an idiot or a troll would say SRL had a glass jaw.

Are you actually trying to say that there is no such thing as a glass jaw?
