Jab - Jones never had a good Jab and looked uncomfortable on the rare occasions that he used it. He had the speed to get away with lead rights and left hooks but against solid Boxers it was a hindrance and when the speed was gone it left him looking ******ed. Despite his speed he was never a big combination puncher choosing instead to throw in ones and twos and I believe it was his lack of Jab to set up the combinations that was the problem here.

Guard/Going to the Ropes - Jones' guard sucked. If he wasn't in the center of the ring controlling the action with his lateral movement and slipping punches with head movement he was lost. When on the ropes he would literally just lean back with a high guard and get pummeled and unlike Ali, he wasn't nearly as adept at slipping from the ropes, picking off punches with the arms/gloves, and didn't have the Chin to fight like this either.

Dropping the Right - Jones always lead with the left hook and he nearly always dropped his right when he did it, as well. It's why Southpaws troubled him and why Tarver was able to flatten him.

Low Left Hand - His normal stance always left him open for a right hand. Not a detriment when you're fighting bums who can't punch and you have awesome reflexes but it got him hit more than a few times and had it been by serious opponents with serious power who knows what would have happened.

    Chin - He had none.

I have to go start my grill now and begin getting drunk, but if there is anything else you'd like me to add I will be back in a few hours.

Wrong. He didn't test positive for any specific agent, just elevated levels of testosterone because that's all the test was for. Roy first blamed it on nose spray and then on Ripped Fuel which contained andro. No one knows what he was on.

when analysing roy jones career, you must distinguish between

    This content is protected

firstly we must understand why a fighter takes banned anabolic steroids in the first place = a boxer takes banned anabolic steroids because they are scared to fight on a level playing field, they feel the need to cheat to gain an unfair advantage over their opponents because they are too cowardly to fight off a level playing field without manufactured advantages.

now look at the appalling level of fighters jones faced after being caught red handed for banned anabolic steroids in the hall fight

    - eric harding
    - derick harmon
    - gonzalez
    - glen kelly
    - clinton woods
    - john ruiz (handpicked

    , slow, no power)

absolute bog standard level of opposition - even a clean jones could beat this standard of opposition

then jones gets slaughtered when he steps up his level of competition for the 1st time as a clean fighter versus tarver and johnson

after these defeats as a clean fighter, jones again fights low level opposition, just like before in his disgraceful 175 reign and surprise surprise . . . . . . he wins

    - ajamu
    - hanshaw
    - trinidad

a clean roy jones then steps up his competition again v calzaghe and is systematically dismantled by joe calzaghe in one of the biggest one sided beatdowns ever witnessed on american soil

then jones goes back to his usual level of competition and the victorys and stunning performances roll on just like during his appalling 175 reign

    - washed up lacy
    - sheika

if the performance that roy produced against lacy was from before he tested positive for banned anabolic steroids, roys fanboys would hold it aloft alongside his performances against the likes of the legendary dave talesco or 135lb bum vinny pazienza. the lacy performance was 'superman' at his very best.

it's been reported to be andro which was over the counter at the time. here's a couple of sources.
    http://www.boxing-monthly.co.uk/content/1007/two.htm
    http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=2782402

    from the boxing monthly article:
Melvina Lathan, Chairwoman of the New York State Athletic Commission: “If someone is caught, who knows if that fighter was previously doing it. And a fighter with unnatural power is capable of doing serious damage. But given the criteria of the Hall of Fame, you have to take each case on an individual basis. Maybe the criteria should be updated. If it isn’t, the decision to vote for or against is individual and very subjective.

“Was Roy Jones’s transgression as egregious as some of the others? No. My reaction to individual fighters depends partly on what was used and whether they were hiding it.

holy **** you're ****ing dumb. let's speculate about his whole career because he took something that was legal over the counter.

i gotta say your previous post about the pilot program was the dumbest thing i've ever seen on this board. you were trying to prove that jones was busted in 2000 by a pilot program that started in 2001. omg!! ****ing classic. stick to just bad mouthing fighters instead of trying to be factual.

What's more important to note, is that there is no proof that Jones took Ripped Fuel or nasal sprays, none. Jones had a chance to clear his name, and submit to a follow up test to determine the substance present, and he refused... I wonder why.

    Now look at this quote

    And finally

haha! where's the info about the pilot program? yes, i've seen all the other things thousands of times on these boards. my links above show that it was over the counter andro he tested positive for which you and your butt buddies continue to ignore. andro was/is considered an anabolic steroid by the ibf. you guys take only the info you want to believe and then ignore or make up the rest. it's kind of sad and pretty pathetic honestly. the fact that you would side with posters like metal mandible & headbanger pretty much sums you up.
