Not sure what the intended effect is here. You won't find more than five posts of me praising Roy on this forum. It is what it is though, and enough is enough. You can deal with that in your own way. :hi:
I agree he was fast, however after he became shot he was no longer fast. Muhammad Ali was the fastest heavyweight to ever live, yet when you look up footage of him when was shot, he looked pretty slow as well. Any fight after the Ruiz fight, Roy Jones was shot. But you already knew that
:yep The passage of time shall do nothing to dim the surging comets that are the likes of Ray Leonard, Roy Jones, Sweet Pea, Iron Mike, Hitman Hearns... Hell, not even Robinson's has dimmed and he fought over a half-a-century ago. And that's strictly in an ability sense. The guys he pulverized were great fighters, but absolutely no match for him when he was on IMO.
People here are sayin that Roy was better than Ray or Joe and that is outrageous! Ray Robinson had it all, he was born with boxing genes and he was the classiest ever. Joe is an icon for the America of the post-Great Depression and he was not more than a light heavy with so much skill and power that he was fighting bigger men. This thread is absolutely insane!!!
Was Roy the greatest ever?? No, he doesn't have enough wins against other great fighters to even come close... He surely was something special though, in his prime, at his prime weight, I would pick over anyone... Most of his weaknesses people speak of so often now were after he climbed 5 weight classes, and dropped back down in a too timely fashion. Roy was certainly great.. but greatest? nah...
From a skill set he can hang with the best of them ..He didn't have to be the greatest to be special ..
Funny too, how Roy gets no credit for beating an old Virgil Hill who happened to be 34... But Roy gets scrutinized for being prime, hiding a glass jaw... Roy was also 34, and did less afterwords than Hill...
