Del Valle was a much bigger fighter than Lamotta, and it was a slip :hi:

whilst Roy had fantastic once in a generation reflexes and accuracy of Ali ilk, he had a couple of obvious deficiencies which cant be overlooked - chin and longevity.

A freaking amazing speed fighter, easily the fastest and most accurate of recent times. Once the speed was going, his ship was sinking.

Not sure he wuold beat Leonard though, SRL was so well rounded despite looking like such a skinny *****.

Yeah because fighting from the age of 6 to 35 and dominating isn't great longevity at all. :patsch

Wasn't close to being a slip. The concerned look on Jones face as the referee was counting doesn't lie. :deal

Jones had some great attributes but too bad he didn't and flat REFUSED to prove them against the top fighters of the day. He avoided way too many big fights and didn't fully test himself.

He had a Glass Jaw. Fact.

yes, i know this you idiot. i've seen the fight many times and have it on dvd. it's considered to be a ko loss, robinson's only one. robinson was only 31 in his fight with maxim. not in his prime but went on to win the middleweight title on 3 more occasions after that fight. jones is the one who had an old man body in all of his ko losses. my fight library has more fights than you've probably seen.

I dont mean to be rude, sorry, its just that his problems and the end of his dominance started after the age of 33, not 35.

I think in recent times you can expect a boxer to maintain a near prime up to about 35, so I dont think I am unfair in saying his longevity was an issue. I reckon it may have been a mental issue more than anything else, what are you supposed to do to follow up making history and winning the HW title from LM roots? Nothing he could ever do after could come close, and he was mentally shot after that.

yeah all these years and time and money I have wasted watching Boxing has been so I could come on a Boxing Forum and troll :rofl:patsch

Just because someone posts something you don't like or agree with doesn't mean they are trolling fanboy. People post stuff I disagree with all the time and I never accuse them of trolling.

Glass Jaws exist in Boxing and we WILL discuss them on ESB. If you don't like it don't read it. The ChinCheckers are going nowhere.

He fought every top fighter there was to beat. Even people were saying Clinton Woods was going to test Jones  :rofl

If welterweight Zivic can make Lamotta look foolish at Lamotta's prime weight in Lamotta's prime, Roy would do it ten times better.

The fact that we are debating Roy vs Lamotta and SRR just shows you what level he was on.

I think SRR MAY have been better adding everything up, but he was too small head to head for Jones at his best I think. Lamotta was made of iron, but he would be outpointed by Jones in a 12 round fight pretty easily and was also a naturally smaller man.

Also... WTF chin checker? You check someones chin in a fight. Not with a keyboard after the fact.

Eh, I think his longevity was just fine. Just because Hopkins is doing it doesn't mean anyone else is. Don't say Mayweather because he took retirements early in his career and that's one of the main reasons he's been able to sustain.

Nice attempt to save face, moron. It's "considered to be a KO loss"....you BoxRec'd and pulled that out of your ass to try and counter me and fell flat on your face when you realized that it had nothing to do with a KO. SRR had an Iron Chin. Fact. SRR had 99 fights at the age of 31 and was still capable of taking a punch despite the Fact that he was clearly declining. Glass Jaw Roy had 51 fights when he got one-punched by Tarver. He never had a Chin. Period.

This is a discussion forum where we :scaredas:discuss things and share opinions, opinions that not everyone else is going to hold. Also, some of us are old enough to remember the farce that was Glass Jaw Roy's career and are not going to sit by and listen to spotty faced teenagers claim that this fraud was unbeatable when he never did anything in his career that would justify such asinine statements. Roy has a Glass Jaw and always has. That alone makes it hard for anyone with a shred of intelligence to pick him in head-to-head match-ups with ATGs who literally fought anyone and everyone there was to fight.
