Reading the link you posted, it seems quite clear that it was no fault of Jones that the Liles fight didn't get made. Liles was apparently a moron (according to his then manager).

Thanks for clearing that bit up.

Jones has given various conflicting accounts for why the Benn fight did not happen.
Jones also had a 10m guarantee going into that fight. If you want that kind of money then of course King is going to want options.
It was Jones's greed that forced that fight to go to purse bids in the first place.

Liles was in the same position as Hopkins was back then. Hopkins(96) was also offered a fight but was unhappy with the money.

The Brannon fight was on 10/96

    Benn:

    Jones(96)

Jones makes no mention here of offering Benn (or Collins) a fight

So when did Jones make this offer? Was it after Benn had gone 0-2 in his last 2 fights?:huh

Reluctant to engage Toney? what the hell are you talking about. Jones actually took a few hard punches from Toney, and every time came back with an onslaught of his own. Roy was a fighter.

But he was injured vs. Hopkins, and took some rounds off. Still won quite comfortable.
