I know you're just taking the **** and trying to get a reaction with that one! Ray Robinson Willie Pep Roberto Duran Henry Armstrong etc etc.
Duran better head 2 head than Jones Jr.... Please. As for the others, they were good fighters for there era mate.... I'll give them that much hahaha....
The same Roy that stopped Virgil Hill... The same Roy that totally embarrassed Hall and Gonzalez... The same Roy who totally outclassed Johnson. Nah... Maybe the version of Roy now, or the one that fought against the road warrior. Thats about it though!!
Absolutely. Ken Buchanan (43-1), Esteban De Jesus (41-0) and (51-3) at 135lbs, Sugar Ray Leonard at 147lbs, Pipino Cuevas, Davey Moore at Lgt Middle, a close loss to Marvin Hagler at Middle, before beating Iran Barkley at 38 years of age. That's a lot of Julio Gonzalez' in there. Even more Rick Frazier's.
Jones victories over future HOF's Hill, Hopkins and Toney were FAR more decisive. Barkley would have been creamed by Jones, even worse then what Toney did. I notice you didn't mention Duran's brutal stoppage loss at the hands of Hearns either, or his humiliating "No Mas" loss to Leonard!!! Sure, he lost to great fighters, and he WAS a great fighter. But your comparing him to a guy who was literally untouchable. Head 2 Head even in his prime at 135, i have Whitaker beating him by a clear UD.
Losing to Leonard (not making excuses, that's what drugs do to you) and Hearns like that are far more impressive in my eyes then a lot of Jones' victories. Hopkins was very untested when he fought Jones, luckily for his resume he blossmed into a great. Toney is a good win. If you're talking pound for pound, Duran shits all over Roy. He started at 130lbs and won a title at Middleweight! That would be the same as Amir Khan doing it now. Unbelievable. Jones was literally untouchable for a while, but his level of competition is pretty ordinary. There were a lot of fights at 160lbs that would've turned him in to the upper echelon of all time greats, p4p. I noticed you didn't take the bait with the roids call either ... *****.
hahahaha... Resume wise you could make a case for Duran, although its pretty close. The way Jones dominated his opposition scores big points for me personally. I think Jones winning a title at heavyweight is equally as impressive as Duran at middle. Oscar in recent times has equalled this feat of Durans, where as Roy was the first fighter in history (from memory) to ever go from middle to heavy. Both extraordinary accomplishments. As for your comments at 160, Jones wasn't there long due to weight, and in reality was quite green. It would have been silly to throw him to the wolves so early in his career... It would be like putting Cotto in against Tszyu when Cotto first took the title. It just wouldn't happen.
I think their resumes are pretty much similiar. RJJ vs Foster, Moorer and Spinks - I would love to believe these 3 blokes would check Jones chin but in his prime he was something special. Too close to call
Jones was special but he fought his share of mailmen , Durans biggest problem was keeping focused between fights hence his weight issues .
Simple fact is that Roy Jones in his prime was an absolute freak, completely dominating the best of his era with class and brilliance. Until Roy dropped back from heavyweight he was unbeatable, which can't be said about any other fighter mentioned. How high he could have risen is unknown because he was never fully tested, even though some of his opponents have gone on to be champions themselves. I'd back Roy Jones against any figher from middle to light heavy in the history of the sport and then some.....
I sometimes wonder how the likes of Moore and Foster would have gone against John Ruiz ? i even think the toy bulldog would given Ruiz a good run for his money .
Roy went into that fight with one plan...to win. For a middleweight staring at a chance to become heavyweight champion of the world, it was not a night to put on a show. He was very cautious and took no chances, just doing enough to win the rounds. Had he gone in against Ruiz with a heavyweight title to his credit I believe you would have seen a completely different event. That's my opinion anyway.
Desite you acting like a **** most of the time i suspect you know your **** so indluge me for a minute lol ,how do you see Moore , Foster & Walker going against the likes of Ruiz today ? seriously im intrested in you take on this subject , ( infact i wou be intrested to here anyone on here's take on this matter ) ..
Archie Moore and Bob Foster would have whipped John Ruiz, are we serious??! It wouldn't even be close. I certainly appreciate Roy's accomplishments, but in the scheme of things, he beat a Heavyweight contender. Ruiz wasn't the man in the division. This doesn't take any gloss off his win, but he won a belt, he wasn't the champion.
