I used to be a big fan of him but now he just pisses me of. Back in the day when he was still in his prime. I waited and waited for him to fight the best guys around. Guys like Jirov,DM,Hopkins rematch,Calzahe etc Guys i thought he would beat easily. But those fights never happened cause Roy wouldnt want to risk his multi year deal with HBO by losing and instead of fighting those guys, fighters that would enhance his legacy he took on an overmatched fighter after the other, one time it was a Police officer, the other was a sanitation worker, a fireman,it was like he was fighting the boxing version of the Village people one after the other, hell he even fought a native american (Hill) but that was a good opponent. And when he started declining. He wasnt as fast as he once was. He couldnt rely on his awesome reflexes to evade punches with ease. When he wasnt Superman anymore. and was basically a shot fighter. He started taking on those risky fights i wanted him to take when he was in his prime but those fights happened eight/ten years too late when he was a shadow of the fighter he once was,a good example of that was Hopkins after years of arguing with Bernard about every little thing from who gets the biggest share of the money, who enters last in the ring, who moves up or down in weight etc, when the fight finally happened he basically ended up fighting for free in one of the worst fights in the history of the sport embarrassing himself in the process.Same **** with Calzaghe a guy that probaly wouldnt have won a round in Roy's prime ended up clowning him as if he was fighting Richard Hall or some other bum. Now Roy nothing more than a stepping stone for guys that want to have a big name on their resume. Guys that used to idolize him are now knocking him out(Green,Lebedev etc). Its so frustrating looking at this guy career. It should have been much more. BTW does anyone knows if he has money problems? He has a nice gig with HBO Why is he still going to foreign places. To get beat up for peanuts. I wish he would just retire before he gets seriously hurt. But Roy being Roy he would do the contrary to what everyone else wants him to do. Rant Over.
I thought it was wrong how Roy clowned with, and embarrassed inferior boxers. . . i mean, imagine, their families were watching. . that ain't right. . you that much better than a boxer, don't rub it in. . . the only world class boxer he pulled that **** with was Toney! BUt still. . . 4 hooks, 1 time. . Lol, and Calzaghe gave him his just desserts by clowning, and styling on him when he was past his prime, lke he did to all those other inferior guys.
Its just not about how it ended. I'm aware that many fighters continue fighting on for way too long. Its about most of his career. How he wasted much of his prime. And how he waited till he was shot to finally step up in comp and cash in.
Like so many skilled boxers he fugged up. Stupid career decisions, stupid financial decisions, and now he's just another big name punchbag. One thing he did understand though; If you don't fight the best in your division and clown the rest people will always believe you'll have beaten them too, even if history has shown over and over again that it surely isn't always the case.
We are going to disagree on the last part ..The man dominated for 15 yrs ...Named fighter of the 90's ..I don't see how he waisted his prime .. And how did he step up ? By fighting guys that had no intention of fighting him when he was younger ? Hopkins ,Calzaghe ? Notice how these guys wanted nothing to do with him til he was shot ..Its sad to see him fighting now but the man loves the sport what can we say ..I just hope he retires soon before he suffers permanent damage ..
