fenech climbed his mountain when he 'won' the draw with nelson in their first fight. after that fight, psycologically/subconciously fenech retired, and his future efforts proved it. his footwork went, but more importantly his chin went. fenech still won a couple against lesser opponents, but he was never the same....ever.

jones is the same. jones climbed his mountain when he won the heavyweight title. soon after (next fight?) he got stopped early, and kept getting ko'd when he fought someone decent. JONES HASNT RECOVERED. his subconcious retired a few years ago. he is fighting on memory and talent. he has no psycological backup. lucky for him, he has a great talent.....but the subconcious will get you ko'd if it isnt onside. its very doubtful that his subconcious is still challenged to win. why would it? its climbed its mountain.

green retired conciously. he wasnt beaten into it. his mentality is still sound. green is dangerous to anyone his size. my money is on green to KO jones, and shock the sheep that are blinded by race and hype.

jones last 5 fights doesnt show that he deserves to be such a short odds winner. i think green has a good chance....and if history of psycologically shot fighters is any indication......jones will get floored ...badly!

Fenech's bout in Vegas was against an ill Nelson. Nothing can be claimed otherwise. The rematch in Melbourne, Neslon was fit, strong and himself again.

Fenech spent too much time in the "Daily Planet" rooting whores in preparation to this fight. Fighting a fit Azumah Nelson was always going to be too much for Fenech.

What was really wrong with Nelson in their first fight?

I read that Nelson claimed he had malaria, but refuse to believe it was something that severe. But his superb performance in the second fight suggests that something wasn't quite right for him in the first one.

I've said it before Green has no chance.........none! Roy will carry him for 12 rds & win a wide UD to setup his rematch with Hopkins.
Agree with Flamengo, Nelson's ill health & his wife passing away had more to do with how good Fenech looked that fight albeit he definately got shafted. Fenech was primed for the 2nd bout but so was Azumah & the rest is history.

Who has Green ever beaten? Put some money on Green if you think he's a good shot.

Pecks, Nelson is not one to come up with lame excuses. He was obviously ill from the malaria that he suffered months earlier. It's not a bug that leave a persons system overnight. Looking at both tapes, there's a remarkable shine in Nelson in the second fight. As for Fenech in the second fight, he was pasted early, battled on as best he could... Look at the fight mate, Fenech is outboxed, out punched and out of luck. Azumah schooled him effortlessly. In the days leading up to the fight in Melbourne, Fenech himself had come down with a flu-like virus. Typical for fighters who over train, fight well below a comfortable weight or take 'roids. I lean towards the last 2 in Fenechs case.

I agree Sally he did get robbed & I can see how he never recovered mentally. But the rematch was only 6 months later & he should of been up for this. He definately was fit enough for the rematch & his confidence for revenge was high but Azumah destroyed his confidence in that 1st rd.

Yeah mate, I know there was a massive difference between performances. But if he had still had malaria I doubt he would have had the stamina to even shadow box for 12 rounds, let alone hold off a great fighter for a narrow loss (in most peoples opinion) for 12.

As I said before, I do think there was something up with him, but just don't think it was something as debilitating as malaria.

victor callegas hit fenech on the chin that would have murdered an elephant. fenech blinked and continued to smash him without even a leg wobble, nelson hit fenech with less in fn2, and fenech was gone....

its the subconcious....it must be on side.
