Like I said mate, and I agree with you, malaria isn't a night on the dunny pissin out ya arsehole, it's stuck in ya system for months and months. I'll have a look through some old mags for anything worthwhile. Maybe Azumah had 2 doses of Malaria. I believe he'd been ill from it for up to 6 months. See what I can find mate.

 

SW... the second fight actually went 8 rounds... There was only 3 rounds worth of action..

 

Fenech Nelson II

Fenech was far from mentally retired. He'd signed a 5 fight deal with Don King worth $5million prior to Nelson in Vegas. The scorecards in Vegas took the wind out his sails, no doubt. He'd clearly got the better of Nelson in Vegas by maybe 3 or 4 rounds.

I think, just like Lionel Rose earlier, too many fights at difficult weights had taken its toll. Fenech mixed hard training with Stanozol, rigged scales and from reports Never made the Bantam or Spr Bantam or Feather limits legitimately. There's too many tales from VERY creditable people who mixed with Fenech in his prime, all claiming Fenech was a cheat in making weight.... if ever he did make weight.

Regardless, his physical capacity against Azumah at Princess Park was shot early. From the first right hand that bombed him to the canvas, to the kicking and kneeing incidents later in the rounds, Fenech was out of his depths. Azumah was well on top of the action in the second fight, with no lethargic adaptations of the Vegas fight, he schooled Fenech.

The difference between the two men?? In both cases, I believe the answer lies in the bloodstreams of each man on each day of the fights. Malaria may be the reason for Azumahs failing in Vegas. Fenech has already stated he 'mucked around' too much in preparation for Azumah II.....
