He could get knocked out touching gloves at the start and it wouldn't be a lower point than losing to Danny Green.

 

Nah Jeff, it's on. They've weighed in.

Lebedev looks alright at 200lbs, no more than alright mind.... and Roy looks at least 55, at 198.

If he lasts three rounds I'd be amazed.

 

I really worry that its going to take Roy to get badly hurt before he stops.

Looking back after he lost to Calzaghe he got wins over Sheika and Lacy and there was a rumbling that maybe he could get a title shot off the back of that. He went to Australia to face Green. Once he was blown out there it was like well okay you should know now yourself you are past it dont bother trying to get back in contention.

Then there was the fight with BHOP which was like ok well you want an easyish fight where maybe you can get a bit of money before you leave the game and not take too much punishment.

Now there is this and its just like atsch what where is the incentive?! You have the money, you must know you are done at any meaningful sort of level you achieved so much there is no more glory to be had :-(

 

I hate that one of the GOAT continues when so badly shot, sad, sad times....

Sad to think that Roy in his prime was always absolutely insistent on getting out in his prime with his health intact, only for it to come to this. :verysad

 

I think Lebedev might be the man to finish him off, make him realise that he just doesn't have it anymore.

He's not a murderour puncher by any means but his hard enough to really punish Jones without getting him out of there immediately.

It's going to take someone to refuse him a licence.... even Holyfield has far more left in the tank than he does, and realises the kind of fighter that he can beat pretty routinely and sticks to those.

 

The problem with Jones is that he was never really fundamentally skilled. He relied on his reflexes and speed to win fights. Unfortunately they are the first to go. Once his reflexes started dulling, he started to take more and more shots. The worst thing he ever did was move down from heavyweight after his opportunistic romp over Ruiz. Losing the 20 pounds of muscle he put on also came with a loss of reflexes and sharpness. I believe his punch resistance was also affected.

He is in danger of being taken out cold in every fight now because he simply can't evade the punches like he used to.

Lebedev will probably treat him like a bigger mug than he treated Enzo, which will be sad to watch.

 

Adie Boothroyd isn't great, but I agree he could badly hurt this version of Roy :-(

 

Can he do a 'Morales'?

 

I think the problem is he still has title ambitions. In some respects i dont mind him carrying on fighting just for "the love" of the sport.

Im pretty sure that he could get a decent bit of business on big shows fighting a level of opposition (Lacy's, Sheika's) that he would be confident of beating and put on a good show and earn a bit for his troubles.

Ray Robinson did that for quite touring round Europe and the UK a bit winning some losing some but not really getting battered and in fights at an acceptable level for him.
