History showed that Jones tested for a banned over the counter suppliment that his opponent also tested for in 1 fight he never failed a drug test since ..Toney was prescribed a steroid for an injury ..Toney must be the poster child for how not to take a steroid !! He may have been the only athlete to take a steroid to get fatter !

Jones is ahead of those two and many others over the course of his career. It's just unfortunate now that Roy is shot and should retire. BHop by contrast is still amazingly, somehow powering on.

RJJ highly overrated resume and the 4 knockout losses just simply do not count because he is older. It is part of his body of work.

He faced horrific hand picked opposition for most of his career. His win vs James Toney is quite impressive and his skills in his prime are way beyond what he actually accomplished in that same time period.

Part of his body of work? When we talk Ali isBerbick/Holmes fights added in to his resume? No because he was way past it-same as Roy.
Funny how nobody mentions Roys first win over Hopkins.
Hopkins or Toneys body of work simply doesn't compare to Roy no to mention Roy defeated both when everyone was still young.

Jones did not win easily. And he damn sure didn't want to see Hopkins again inside a boxing ring.

Hokins > Jones.. a career is a marathon, not a sprint.

If Jones retired after Tarver 1, we wouldn't even have this discussion. It'd be Jones > Hopkins > Toney.

I love James Toney, but outside of Jirov he didn't really accomplish all that much after losing to Roy. Beating McCallum and Nunn alone, and his accomplishments at the lower weights sealed his HOF pass.. but he'll now be remembered for being a fatass with a big mouth.. a funny guy.. but still.

In my opinion Jones is somewhat greater than Hopkins still. If you compare the best 20 wins of each fighter against the other, Roy takes it.

The man beat a string of very good light-heavyweights as well as Hopkins at 160, Toney at 168 and Ruiz at heavyweight. That took some doing.

Also it's not just who he beat but it's the way he beat them - the man was supremely dominant with the exception of the 1st Griffin fight right up until the Ruiz fight. Hopkins gets massive credit for beating Pascal - and rightly so - but the Ruiz fight was a better win by far, especially for Roy who started out as a light-middleweight.

And yes Roy did school Bernard. IMO he won at least 10 of those 12 rounds. Roy against Bernard prime against prime always plays out that way too - Hopkins just can't deal with Roy's hand speed or elusive footwork.

Hopkins's losses against a weak-chinned Jermain Taylor and Jones and Calzaghe hurt him quite a bit IMO. They prove that he is a limited fighter. Don't get me wrong, Hopkins is an ATG - so for me is Toney - but Roy still has a clear margin of greatness over him.

    Good thread Cobra33!

Toney? Sure. Hopkins? No way in hell. None. Hopkins has been willing to make the big fights and travel to fight and he hasn't been brutally and embarrassingly KOed in his advanced age like Jones has.

Hopkins racked up more accomplishments and titles. But a prime Roy Jones Jr. would whoop him.

See you're such a mother****in hypocrite man, u say that Jones faced horrible handpicked opposition for most of his career. Well what about your ****in butt buddy Hopkins? Have you seen the mother****in opposition he faced. STFU ******.

    Antwun Echols x3
    Robert Allen x2
    Shot Simon Brown
    Andrew Council
    Morrade Hakar
    Joe Lipsey
    Steve Frank
    William Bo James
    Howard Eastman
    Carl Daniels

That right there is 13 title defenses against poor opposition.

You are one of the worst posters when it comes to talking about Jones.

Roy Jones wins over James Toney, John Ruiz and arguably Bernard Hopkins are better than any of Hopkins own wins...what can yu say about that huh?

In the 90s, yes, as a p4p#1, yes. Hopkins went on to improve his resume greatly in the 2000s and is ahead in that department, but should be punished for not rematching Roy when they were both prime. When you have them close in legacy, it will be hard not to give the nod to Roy because of that.
