This is the thing. Jones (like Holyfield) has fought so long I think alot of people forget how great he truly was. Little can be said that prime for prime Hopkins or Toney ever beats RJJ.

the first Rjj Bhop fight doesnt mean a whole lot, it wasnt a big fite at the time , Bhop was NOT accomplished then, This was an undercard fight and not a big deal and it also stunk

Bhop has progressivley gotten better and he keeps winning

lets not make out that was some kinda super fight it simply wasnt

Question to all those who feel Jones is above Hopkins:

If Bernard not only continues fighting at the highest level, but keeps winning, at his age, will he then in your view, surpass Jones?

I mean, lets have it right, guys. If Hopkins is still top man in a year or two years time, then he blatantly surpasses Jones!

He already has in my view.

Man's nearly middle-aged & is still beating them! Jones is Knocked out again & again!

it's close, but i'll go with roy still.

i bet this thread ain't worthy for discussion if roy quit boxing after winning his hw title. roy (5'11) moved up and challenged big men, while hopkins (6'1) spent much of his career fightin' blown out welterweight (trinidad, dlh and wright).

roy was the fighter of the 90's, their decade.

I think you can argue either way for either being higher than the other. I personally have it Hopkins, Jones then Toney

When they were both young Roy beat Hopkins.Yes Hopkins improved over time but he still couldn't beat a prime Roy Jones.

Jones has the much stronger resume of the two.

Now Jones did cherry pick alot esp in his latter years but so did B-Hop.

Hopkins does not handle speed well at all.

Hell during Roys reign at both Middle and super middle he CRUSHED everyone-he didn't just win-he flat out dominated.

Hopkins on the other hand got dropped not once but twice and held to a draw by Mercado.

I like Hopkins style and I do beleive he was the smarter boxer then Roy when it came to boxing fundamentals-but Roy is the type of boxer that doesn't come around too often-as a matter of fact name one boxer right now that compares to Roy?

Yes indeed, I would call RJJ athletic gifted rather than skilled. His physical gifts allowed him to do things wrong, and turn them right. But too bad his athleticism deminish with his age. B-Hop on the other hand can compete at top level because his A+ skills can always overcome the physical limitations of an older guy!!

Jones has been proven to have no Chin, no heart, no Plan B in a fight. He also never beat an Undisputed, Unified, or Lineal World Champion which in the era of 4 belts is pretty pitiful.
