Mosley hasn't turned back the clock. Margarito is just too damn slow for anyone with Mosley's speed mind you Mosley isn't nearly as fast as he used to be. Add to that Margarito's hands weren't wrapped. Mosley was pulling his punches in that fight; I thought he looked terrible but Margarito was just awful. I think Mosley is close to Oscar as far as just how much they've declined. Mosley should stay far away from Pac
mosely looked terrible against margo?? he actually executed a great gameplan against margo. that is what nazim can do and thats what they did. give the guy some credit.
Jones will do just fine to feed his massive ego-as long as it is on the B circuit.Thank goodness for the IBO,eh Roy?
If Danny Green lands a hard right on RJJ it will be the last you see of him:deal Although RJJ looked impressive last night don't forget lacy was lucky to get the nod againt otis griffen and Danny demolished otis sending him to the canvas 3 times b4 the ref stopped it in less then 4 rounds.
In comparison to what he was back in his prime. Yes, he fought a great fight though and I give him props for that. But take a step back and look at his fight vs. Mayorga. Oscar got rid of Mayorga in half the time. Mosley should have also, but he just doesn't possess the same abilities, speed, reactions, footwork etc. as he used to. Margarito was a perfect style for him to exemplify what he does have remaining though. I'm an Oscar fan, and Shane for the matter, but I wish Oscar would've stepped up to the plate and took on Marg. I believe he would've faired much better and boxed his way to a comfortable UD. I think if the fights were reversed and Shane took on Pac, Mosely would have been assaulted in the same manner Oscar was but Mosley would've been able to tolerate a few more rounds before being stopped. I watched Oscar vs. Shane 1 a couple weeks ago. Compare that Shane to this one and it's pretty extreme. Compared to that version, Shane looks old.
How many shot fighters look like that...? This is the funny thing about Jones Jr. He's been shot for 5 years. No dishonor in losing against Joe Calzaghe. The guy is not what he was. Still better than 85% of the other fighters. Jones is still a top fighter despite being "shot". How impressive is that? To me, it tells a lot. Ask Lacy who he prefers to fight, Taylor or Jones? No, beating Lacy is not that impressive. But beating him like that, at 40 y'o...Now it is.
Roy is not as washed up as people think. Tarver and Calzaghe and Johnson were better than people thought. They might have given Roy tough fights and stopped him earlier in his career. Tarver and Calzaghe were southpaw. Johnson could punch. The really good guys Roy fought were either weak Toney, a little older Virgil Hill or really older Mike McCallum
Yeah. Maybe people are overrating Jones. Tarver, Calzaghe and Johnson would have give Jones trouble at any point of his career. I would still like to see a rematch against Johnson.
Jones in his prime would have handily beaten any of the fighters to defeat him. I could see Calzaghe being competitive and maybe winning four rounds, but that's it. Jones always would have had some danger against Tarver, but a prime Jones would have been OK. And he'd have schooled Johnson. The fact that Roy can produce B+ performances at his current level is a testament to good he used to be. Make no mistake: He's shot.
No way these guys would've stopped Roy in his prime. Go and watch Roy vs. Toney. He was untouchable and would've made them look ridiculous. He was way too fast and saw everything coming a mile away. They'd have been lucky to win 1 or 2 rounds vs. Roy back then.
It really depends on what being "shot" means. I don't think a shot fighter does as well as Roy's doing. But compare him to how damn good he used to be and I can see someone saying he's shot. It's weird; I used to watch Roy at the bars when I was just out of high school. I remember all of those fights when he'd just coast to a win and he was p4p on every bodys list. Now, more than 10 years later, he's still at it. I guess it's pretty amazing he's still in the eye of boxing fans and still delivering good fights.
People seem to forget that Roy was fighting in the Olympics 20 years ago.... The performance he put on against Lacy and the handspeed he displayed at age 40 was amazing, shot or not.
Nobody who knows Boxing really think that Roy is back all of a sudden and that, nor do they think this win is career defining. But he put up a good performance, and at the age of 40 he impressed me at the amount of hand speed he has left, nobody is gonna jump on the bandwagon but the fight was exciting and he put on a good show... he looked good and we should give him props for that.
