Once he was knocked out in the amateurs he knew he was chinny and tried to avoid the biggest punchers. It's a shame he never fought Liles ,McClellan,Jackson,Benn,Eubank,Jirov,Dariusz M. etc. because he would have got knocked out a lot sooner.
Jones could have beaten Liles, McClellan, Jackson, Benn, Eubank, Jirov, and DM too, so it works both ways. In fact, I would pick Roy over all of them.
Ok who from that list do you pick to beat Jones by KO. Specifics. :deal Its easy to hide behind a list and say "someone" KO's him. Get out on a limb and say who it is so we can have a real debate.
Personally i do feel DM would have the highest chance of KOing Jones... relentless work rate, punches hard and back then a rock solid chin. I would lean towards Jones to win but i would not be surprised at all if DM would get the KO... would have been a awesome fight regardless and i blame both of them for it never happening.
I'd like to take your challenge acb. Well, to be honest, I believe Nigel Benn is capable of stopping Jones. You can make a case of Benn being too reckless but he also has that very unorthodox style which can catch RJJ by surprise. And as showed by the McClellan fight, he knows how to react in adversity. I think back at the time when both are 168 champs, Jones was still untouched. Who knows how Jones will do when things get nasty.
He did duck a lot of guys. Or he failed to fight a lot of guys, if you prefer...his resume is a derth when compared to his own talent.
Eubank himself told that he saw no reason in fighting Roy, he admited that Roy was superior to him. I think its Roys greed for big money (he wasnt after legacy) and oponents who didnt want to lose (Eubank, Hopkins) was the main reasons why Jones competition wasnt that great.
Jones beat Toney,Hopkins,Hill,McCallum,Ruiz,Griffin,Tarver,Woods,Castro thats a pretty nice wins resume. McCallums already in the Hall of Fame and we all knows Hopkins and Toney are headed in and maybe even Virgil Hill or Antonio Tarver(worse have went in)Trinidad assuming Roy wins will give him atleast 4 wins over Hall of Fame fighters.
Also im not sure how techniqually Roy is a ducker he fought all his mantadorys (I dont count the Vitali at Heavyweight thing because thats not a fair matchup)He gave his only close win over Tarver a rematch and even tried to avenge that loss in the rematch and did avenge the loss to Montell Griffin with just 2 punches. To me the only real fight that needed to happen but didnt was with DM and dont blaim RJJ for refusing to fight overseas when the poor man was robbed of a Gold Medal in Soul Korea.
You'll get no argument from me. I think that Calzaghe has the biggest gap between his talent and the standard of his competition ever.
Your acting like a *****. We have thread and threads based on hypothetical matchups on this forum, so WTF IS WRONG WITH IT HERE? He made a list of fighters and some vague reference to "if RJJ fought these guys he would have been KO'd sooner" type thing. I challenged it and simply asked him WHO EXACTLY would do so, nothing wrong with that. SO WHATS YOUR PROBLEM?
He did fight McClellan in the amateurs and he lost. I honestly believe McCllelan would have been ATG if the unfortunate events with Julian Jackson and Nigel Benn hadnt happened. Hope his sisters looking after him are doing ok.
The problem wasn't Jones ducking, the problem was Jones demanding all the money. When Ruiz negociated with Jones, he gave away everything Jones demanded. Then he says in numerous post fight interviews that he hates Jones for not giving him a rematch! Well, he gave it all away like all the other fools Jones fought. The other guys like Benn or Eubank weren't that stupid.
If we are about to start judging the prime periods of boxers by how they did against opposition at the tail end of their careers, Ali is a real loser as well. Hell, to have lost against Neon Leon absolutely must prove that every single boxer Ali didn't face in the 60's had an excellent shot of beating him soundly. Tyson, too. What a bum. Idiot.
