How hard does he look in that interview? Like i said earlier though at that stage he was ****ed, Jones would have took the **** with that version.Glad they didn't fight at that stage.
You can't really of expected Jones to fight McClellan, they both only picked up there belts in 93 and the Benn fight happened by 95. You can't expect two prospects to come together and unify as soon as they pick up their belts. Jones clearly had his sight's set on moving up through the weights anyway, as he'd moved up to 168 by late '94. If he faced Gerald McClellan he probably wouldn't of faced James Toney at the time was he was P4P #3 in the world, and that was a great fight for Jones' legacy. You can't blame Jones for not making the McClellan fight happen, there's every chance it make have happened at 168 if he'd come through the Benn fight. McGrain already explained about the Benn fight, Liles was a random and pointless name to include in your incredibly bias arguement, Jones would of dispatched him with ease, Michalczewski was content to sit on his belt in Germany and made no attempt to go to the US and fight Roy, and why would Roy want to go to Germany for the WBO belt? Jirov is a cruiserweight, regardless of where Roy was at the time you can't accuse him of ducking a cruiserweight behind a natural 168 and having started at 160. And Eubank, well Roy didn't step up to 168 until late '94, by early 95 Eubank had lost his belt to Steve Collins.
How wouly the biggest ducker in the sport fight James Toney, a top p4p fighter and favorite at the time, Hopkins, Virgil Hill? How would a ducker, who is a natural 160 - 175 fighter go up to HW against a legit top 10 HW? Roy Jones in his prime was very difficult to even hit cleanly, let alone knock out. DM and Benn would have a chance, but a small one.
Was Roy really 'Knocked Out in the amateurs'? I didn't know this? Anyways, David Tua was dropped by a single right cross in the amateurs and seriously ****ed up for a few minutes afterwards, albeit by an ATG amateur HW in Savon. Has he shown any chin discrepancies since???
Benn comes forwards and Jones hits hard with great timing and accuracy. You come onto a puncher like that and you're going to get hurt. Get hurt by a puncher like that and you're going to get stopped/pulled. I saw the McLellan fight live but haven't watched it on YouTube or anything like that since, no. It just doesn't give me a good feeling.
That interview says all you need to know about Nigel Benn. Truly a fearless guy, any fan of the sport has to respect someone like that. His career was excellant, did it all really. 2 weight champion, over 10 defences of the WBC strap, fought and won in the US against very live opponents, took part in classic fights and became a household name in the UK. The guy had it all. And now he's a vicar :nut
McClellan beat him in the Am's. Wasnt a KO tho. Havent seen it, but it was meant to be brutal. McClellan complained about his jaw hurting a month after it or some ****.:!: Dunno who the guy was that sparked Roy(If anybody).
I'm not saying he would've beat Jones man. Just wanted to show to the doubters that Benn didn't duck Jones.
