Roy Jones Jnr: Does he deserve to be an ATG on achievement?

    I know hes a great but does he deserve to in the elite of ATGs like SRR, Ali and Armstrong?

    Talent wise Jones is arguably the most gifted of all time

    Some of the thing he did in the ring were off the wall never been seen before. I just feel his lack of a defining, hard fight really goes against him when judging his historical standing

    easily. there's no doubt he's the best of the 90s along with Whitaker. A lot of the hate his way is indeed revisionism. there is definitely more he could have done but this is also the case for a ton of vaunted all time greats as well.

    He doesn't belong in the group you mentioned, but obviously he's an ATG. His career was spectacular and it still failed to fully live up to his abilities. The man was just that damn good.

    An ATG, but he will never be established in that title. He did lack a great fight, which he said was because he was so good no one could compete with him. I did ask Ray Leonard once on the phone if he thought a great fighter needed to be in great fights and he said yes. It did not have to do with Roy Jones, it was just a question I put to him.

    jones is my favorite fighter. with that said, it's hard to figure out where to put him on the all-time ATG list. everyone here has brought up good points so far. jones' defining fights were ruiz and toney. good wins, but he won easily in both. it wasn't quite like leonard beating hearns even though jones' skill level in those fights were off the charts. overall someone like srl had big wins in big fights and would probably be ranked ahead of jones on the atg list but i feel jones fought on a higher level. don't forget in '97 that international boxing digest ranked jones the #1 lb for lb boxer of all-time. it easy to forget how good jones was in recent years.

    He beat something like 20 world champions all in, plenty of elites, plenty of P4P level opponents and barely lost a round for 14 years. His resume is better than Henry Armstrong's for 1

    again, this was from '97 and they explain why dlh was so high on the top of the rankings.

    I realy can't see it.

    I think his resume is more conspicuous in terms of what he didn't do than what he did do.

    -His resume at LHW is very good
    -His resume at SMW is very good
    -His resume at MW is very good also
    -His performances are always breathtaking
    -His win over Ruiz is awesome
    -His overall ability is great

    In my opinion he is one of the greatest....he has a case for a top 15-20, or something, in my opinion....
