I like both. I think Jones was a far greater fighter but his chin is a very worrying intangible. I think Calzaghe might try and out box him. He's been working on his handspeed and work rate but I can't see him trying to walk through Jones who is still fast enough to catch Calzaghe with the type of punch Hopkins nailed him with.

Jones still has some great moves but that he allowed himself to be outworked by Tarver is damning evidence he is on the slide big time. I think he will have lots of moments but not enough moments to sway the judges his way. I think we'll be looking at a 116-114 decision in Joes favour.

i posted this on a similar thread..

i think the fight could go any way, i really do...

lots has been made of jones age and that he is washed up....but, remember that calzaghe is old now too and also less than he was at his peak

the obvious outcome would be calzaghe on a points verdict as he won't have the one-punch knokout shot to trouble jones in that way...and he will likely be the busier boxer, slapping away as he does..

but, jones has a one of style that calzaghe will never have fought against before...he wont even have sparring partners that will emulate jones well...so, therefore, calzaghe could get hit at any point of the fight with a big shot coming from an awkward angle that he won't expect....like jones has done in the past....calzaghe has a good chin, but he has been down before, and i do expect at some point that jones will land one of his best shots on his chin...and even if jones is older and slower, his power will still be there...

one thing that worries me about this fight is that calzaghe and jones have promoted this themselves...they sat down, did a deal, remained great friends throughout...no problem there...except, from day one they have both hinted that 'if its a good fight' or 'if its a close fight' then 'we'll have a rematch'...its very unusual that a rematch would be talked about in the early days of a fight promotion...i'd hate it if they took it easy on each other in the fight...fought to a close calzaghe borefest and then do a rematch....but thats the conspiracy theorist in me....couldnt happen....could it ??

whatever happens i'll be looking forward to it...hope it is a good fight...

i see it going quite differently, i still see a calzaghe win but wider perhaps 117 to 111

calzaghe will be throwing way too many punches for jones at this stage in his career and i believe calzaghe will try walk through jones' punches and at times be successful overwhelming jones, i expect jones to catch calzaghe clean at times early in the fight but i dont think jones has the power to hurt joe the way kessler hurt him and stunned him

If Jones performs as he has done in his last 3 or 4, I struggle to envisage him winning more than 2 rounds. He could even get knocked out if his stamina is as poor.

If he's as motivated and sharp as people seem to think he might do a bit better, especially if Calzaghe is slipping as I think.

Either way, the end result is Calzaghe wins.

ive got faith in jones for UD or stoppage, not a late stoppage it could happen early

roy looks back to his old self

joes got no power soo jones will feel more relaxed to take risks

He's got more power than old ass Trinidad, and he still couldn't pull the trigger.

The excuse seems to be he could have knocked him out but they were friends :nut :patsch

in training, u watch joe training, and then watch roy, the transition in quality is massive, roy hits much harder than joe, is quicker and has better timing and can throw punches from out of range, his legs look better, hes starting to peak from when he lost all that muscle and flopped his body, hes got back to a balanced state

roy of 10 years ago.. makes joe look shyte

    joes chin?

    joes body?

joes defence on the back foot?

if roy can force him back he can **** joes rythm up, joe dont do fighting backwards, he comes forwards and windmills..

joes a dangerman all of a sudden when he couldnt even stop manfredo, his punches have nothing on them, he had a proper dirty fight with bika bika cut him up

theres loads of calzaghe fights to pre-judge how this fight ill go... if its not a good style for joe he always looks ****.. RJJ is a bad style for him, when he trys to get close hes gonna be getting some bombs to the face..
