If the man wants to go out on his shield, let him.

However this fight would further prove that Bellew has a better resume at HW than Wilder.

Why you hating on Roy so much? Joshua would possibly kill RJJ at this point.

Doesn't Roy have enough money in the bank to take care of his chickens in Florida? I don't think he's
ever had a huge entourage or big family to support....he's on a path to dementia at this point.

I watch all of Roy's interviews, and I haven't heard him mention winning a CW title for some time now. The way he's been speaking, I think he's finally given in. There's no more opportunities for him. He wouldn't even be able to get a big fight in Russia anymore. The way he's been talking, he just wants one more fight and then he's done.

Regarding Bellew, I'm absolutely certain that he wouldn't take the fight at this stage. I don't even think he'd even entertain it. But I truly believe that if he had have taken it pre Lebedev, he'd have gone all out without holding back.

I love talking to you about Roy, but with all due respect, I couldn't disagree more with what you've written. I would honestly pick any top 10 LHW to beat Roy with ease, let alone the CW's. Dennis Lebedev knocked Roy out 6 years ago, and I think Bellew is a better fighter than him. There's no way Roy would outbox him for a decision win. He'd get caught as soon as Bellew stepped on the gas. Roy's defence is poor, as his legs are static. I think Bellew would take him out with absolute ease, as would any of the CW's. Roy wouldn't be able to avoid taking a huge shot. I've always liked Enzo, but without being disrespectful, he's a C class fighter. At this stage, Roy would be a sitting duck.

Regarding Bellew's fight with Haye, he didn't go all out for the knockout, because Dave Coldwell told him to keep his composure. He had the fight won, Haye was hurt, and there was no point in taking an unecessary risk. He also respected the fact that Haye still had one punch knockout power. In my honest opinion, he would never have respected Roy's offense in the same way as he respected Haye's. Him not jumping on Haye isn't evidence that Roy would have been able to have survived. You're talking about 2 completely different fights. I can't envisage anything but a horror show. Again, Roy wouldn't be able to keep Bellew off of him. It would be a horrible night for a fan of Roy's. At this stage, Roy shouldn't even be allowed to face a top 20 fighter, let alone a world class one.

If Roy had the attitude that you have towards his ability to be able to compete vs top fighters, then he wouldn't have accomplished what he has accomplished in the sport. I get being realistic, but when you really look at his stoppage losses post Johnson, they've all been flukey in my opinion. The Green stoppage was a joke, Lebedev it was moments before the final bell after fighting him tooth and nail and having him in trouble, Enzo was after the argument with his cornerman in between rounds and he clearly came out in the 4th round discheveled for some reason which clearly led to the stoppage. I mean those have been the only times he's been stopped since 2004. They could each have been avoided. The guys that stopped him are much bigger punchers than Tony Bellew. I just think you like many fans are just going way overboard when it comes to being concerned about Roy's health. It's not a bad thing, I just think your hugely exaggerating the chances of somebody like Tony Bellew stopping Roy Jones.

I mean after fighting Haye, Tony Bellew basically said he probably going to retire. That's how exhausted he felt after fighting Haye. In his mind he was basically on the brink of retirement, since then he had the run in with Wilder and all that, and he's still talking about fighting, but this is not a guy that was acting like he had that much left in the tank after the Haye fight. I don't know what you see in this guy to suggest that he is capable of knocking out Roy Jones Jr. I'm sorry but despite the occasional stoppage KO Loss, Roy Jones Jr is not an easy man to knockout and as someone like yourself who rates Roy so highly, I think you are selling Roy Jones Jr short by acting like little Old Happy Go Lucky Tony Bellew would be a Horror Show for Roy Jones Jr. Could Tony Bellew stop Roy Jones? Possibly, but it's hardly a forgone conclusion. There are much bigger punchers out there that I'd worry about stopping Jones before I would worry about Tony Bellew. Tony's admiration for Jones and his inability to want to fight him is precisely why I wouldn't expect him to stop Roy Jones because he has so much respect for him I doubt he'd be able to pull the trigger even if he had the ability to. So no I don't see Bellew as some nightmare opponent for Roy Jones. Bellew is a good solid fighter, I like Bellew but he's ordinary compared to Roy Jones. Bellew would have a chance of winning due to Roy's age, but I don't see why Roy Jones couldn't outbox this guy similarly to how he was outboxing Enzo in the early rounds or like he's done in countless other fights.

    shadow111,

The Green stoppage was a little premature, but the worrying thing was that Roy didn't have the reflexes in the first instance to avoid the right hand. If it'd have been a few years earlier, Roy would have reacted to that before Green had even extended his arm. The referee could have let it go on, but Roy would have been knocked out regardless.

Roy did well against Lebedev, but I think Roy's deteriorated since then. He looked off balance against Glazewski the following year in 2012.

It makes no difference to me that Bellew isn't as heavy handed as Enzo. Because I think he has more than enough power to stop Roy, and I really struggle to envisage a scenario where Roy would survive. Roy just can't evade shots anymore against top level opponents. Although Bellew isn't a great fighter, he's a genuine world class CW. Roy simply isn't capable anymore of beating world class fighters.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think Bellew would ever take a fight and not go all out. He doesn't operate like that. He'd either fight Roy and give it all he'd got, or he'd refuse the fight. Roy is an easy guy to knock out by world class fighters. He can only beat really low level journeymen at this stage. Any world class CW would take him out at some point, even if he had patches of success. He simply couldn't survive a 12 round fight. I don't know what you've seen to suggest otherwise. Bellew isn't ordinary compared to Roy. Not this current 48 year old version. And it pains me to say that. But it's the truth. If Roy wants to prolong his career, it has to be against guys like Rodney Moore and Bobby Gunn.

Bellew confirmed that RJJ's team contacted his manager about a fight, but he's not interested.

    So it's not happening.
