Toney was obviously Jones' best performance... No explanation needed. Hopkins was better too than many people give him credit for... That fight gets brushed under the rug too often, because Hopkins was green, as was Roy in my opinion. Hopkins directly after that fight went on one of the best MW reigns of all time. Sometimes beating someone right before they go on to be great, is a good thing, and Hopkins certainly never brushed it under the rug. Tarver was great in the fact that Jones showed he had extreme heart, and could dig down in a close fight while being weight drained and had dropped from Heavyweight to win back the title he vacated. Popkins is a much better boxing historian than I am, how many fighters did that? Griffin 2 was another reason people can't say Roy never adjusted and had a plan B... Roy was not that aggressive in the first fight, and let the odd styled Griffin make him look worse than he was... In the second fight he adjusted his game plan, and tried to knock his head off while walking through Griffin's shots who actually rocked him hard a couple times in the first fight.... It incidentally happened within 3 minutes. Ruiz was a good win too, I know it was Ruiz, but still the size Jones gave up and the way he outclassed him was a masterful performance, and a bit historic.
Yes Hopkins was still a really good fighter in '93 not at his best though. You could tell Hopkins had something special in the Jones fight. Best performance - Toney, Malinga, Griffin 2
And a man that dedicated his whole boxing career to beat Roy, which some say had a stylistic advantage, also very very hungry and fighting a totally weight drained Roy Jones... Roy's last great performance in my opinion, that came more sudden than expected.:yep
good shout out. a tough ass fighter who twice held benn to decisions (before and after jones) and took eubank the distance who was completely dismantled and destroyed by jones. love that fight where's herzberg talking about "elite euro level" competition when you need him
Virgil Hill was also a good performance by Roy... Virgil was not his best, but he was still a good fighter... He went up to CW and won a belt after Roy broke his ribs with a single shot.
I didn't notice that when I was typing. I love "that fight" between RJJ and Tarver in their first encounter.lol
Yep... It says something about Roy's resume when a fighter like Malinga isn't mentioned that often. Roy has multiple dominating victories like that when you dig in a bit, fighters that are not his highlight victories that had good fights with or beat fighters Roy gets accused of ducking.:yep:good
Roy ducked Benn Eubank and McClellan to fight Toney.. He ducked DM to fight Tarver, even though DM had lost to Gonzalez by the time of Jones vs Tarver..
Lets be honest Toney was ranked high at the time when RJJ beat him I wouldn't say he ducked anyone to face Toney. As far as DM, neither wanted to fight out of their countries from what I know of.
