He maybe went on too long, but he has to be one of the very best Iv ever witnessed live. In hindsight his achievements look even better imho.
Not really. Real recognizes real. Chiva was a bad man. Nearly 40 years since his death, I have yet to see another fighter with the same level of stoicism. You can see Gomez psychologically fall apart whenever his best shots failed to even make Sanchez blink.
Roy is my fave boxer of all time. Him, Trinidad and DLH were def my boxing heroes as a kid growing up and watching boxing with my dad.
I didn't know of Sanchez until Roy mentioned him. Not sure if it was this article, or a previous one. To the question, Roy was one of many fighters I was amazed by, but can't say he was my hero. At one point i considered him P4P #1. Untouchable. Most gifted, fastest hand speed. Freakiest of reflexes, but when he took on Vinny Paizenza, I started to look at other fighters. Didn't like the choices he was making for awhile. Ali, Leonard, Meldrick Taylor, Whitaker, Tyson, Holyfield, Jackson, RJJ, Pac Hopkins, in that order, were the ones whose fights I craved to watch over any other fighters.
