I’ve seen Roy mention Sanchez in a different article as well. Makes sense that he would like Sanchez, since he fought regularly on network TV. Plus I’m sure Roy Sr. made sure that Roy watched lots of boxing, whenever he wasn’t putting him through some sadistic workouts by adult standards, much less for a kid/teenager.
I always remember Roy when he hang many World Championship Belts on his shoulders while he was stepping up in the ring. If I remember correctly he had about 5 belts on his shoulders.
Yeah, at one point he had all the major, minor and on the spot-invented belts. Before he fought for HW title he had the LHW's WBC, WBA, WBF,IBO, IBF & IBA belts all at once. No cleaner house at the time than the LHW Divsision under Roy Jones Jr. Only ones left were NABF & that Diamond belt.
I have also seen Roy speak almost reverently about Duran and his skills, and how he sought to incorporate them himself.
LOL. Clueless. Lineal/WBO champion Dariusz Michalczewski was the world light-heavyweight king back then. He'd also been politically robbed of his WBA & IBF titles. Roid Jones, Jr was nothing more than a paper ABC title holder who always refused to challenge Michalczewski. Get educated on the subject before embarrassing yourself.
Joseph, Joseph, Joseph. It's been a long time. Politically robbed? Mmm. Why didn't he drop the lightly regarded WBO belt as soon as he'd beaten Hill? The WBA also stripped and threatened to strip some of their other champs who also held the WBO belt. Darius M and his promoter simply had to have been aware of that. There's no way they couldn't have known that. The WBO were formed by disgruntled ex members of the WBA. There was lots of friction there. People like to claim Dariusz was unfairly stripped. But he never seemed too fazed by it and was happy to milk the WBO belt for all its worth. If he'd have dropped it after Hill, he'd have held 2 of the main 3 belts. Also, Roy didn't refuse to challenge Dariusz. He just wouldn't go to Germany. Kerry Davis of HBO is on record stating that they did all they could to try and negotiate for a fight in the U.S. Loudunce/Fat Robert has missed you Joseph. What have you been up to?
There is no embarrassing one's self on a social media board where we come to talk, debate and yes learn. Unless you value every person's opinion on what they think of you. Please don't ask me what I think of you. Apparently you know it all and came to teach, insult and instruct, kudos to you Mr. Clue. Re-read...I said there was no (cleaner) house at the time. Never did I say he had every belt. So what division had a cleaner house? The man had several belts. That is a good definition of cleaning house as few today have done such. I don't want your kind of education.
Sorry. I found it difficult to spell his name. Dariusz did not duck Roy and Roy did not duck Dariusz. Roy didn't want to fight Dariusz in Germany and Dariusz didn't want to fight Roy in the U.S. so it was not anybody fault.
Roy ducked him LOL Roy was like Calzaghe look at their title defences .All on home soil, defended against postmen, schoolteachers & even a n Aussie garbage collector never once trying to unify. Calzaghe only fought B Hop & Roy because he knew he'd be " looked after" B Hop really beat him
B Hop didn't beat him. I've watched the whole fight a few times and it's always been Calzaghe winning it from what I've seen.
