I know, it is probably beating a dead horse here, but i got to think this guy is broke. I have heard he got ripped off by don king on the Trinidad fight and the calzaghe fight, he didn't make much. Is that true? I mean, the fight over the weekend, I can't see how he made more than 100g. I really doubt he made 100 Million in his career.
No he didn't LMAO. His albums actually sold well. I wouldn't be surprised if it went gold. He's definitely not broke. He's one of the smartest men in the industry. He probably made over 100 million in his career, he runs his own promotion company and has for a while.
Jones is straight broke That's why he fights on knowing he will be badly hurt Oh well its either that or sell his ass
Don't you listen to his interviews? He wants to get the cruiserweight title before he retires. He's not fighting for money. He has plenty of money and plenty of sources of money. He runs a promotion company and could be as rich as DLH just by doing that. He runs a music record label and could just recruit rappers and be rich doing that. He does commentary and could be rich just doing that. Roy Jones Jr. is one boxer who isn't short on money. His money goes long.
Are you on that crack? Roy jones in his prime ducked risky fights, but now that he's shot he's suddenly in it for legacy Wtf
according to rjj and calzaghe and hbo both fighters agreed a 50/50 deal via text message for the fight with no promoters involved, calzaghe had just sacked off frank ****** (which ended up in court ) and rjj was that famous he didnt need a promoter, doubt that he's broke, just think he cant give up the one and only life he's ever know and thats being a boxer,
Boxmaster, while you are very confident in what you are saying is correct, you are wrong. The ones that are telling you he is broke is correct. He owns the United States Government a lot of money, and a lot of his money in recent fights has gone straight to Uncle Sam without Jones ever seeing a cent. A internet search will show he owed the government 3.4 million in a story dated April 7, 2011. It's also strongly rumored, and believed to be true he made exactly 0 dollars in his rematch against Bernard Hopkins because of the contract he signed. There are other sources. It's hard to see our beloved fighters fighting for pennies way way past their primes because of mismanagement and tax issues.
Jones owed the IRS 3.4 million in 2011 for years going back as much as 2002/2003! They had to file a lien with the county court. This doesn't happen unless someone is broke as ****. Jones signed the Lebendev fight to pay part of his IRS debt. He reportedly grossed $500k for having his glass jaw shattered in Moscow.
He never ducked risky fights that way.. he actually fought risky fights, just doesnt get credit for it because people put wayy too much on his back, unlike other fighters. They say he ducked fights that he wasnt even a contender yet to be considered realistically. There is two reasons why RJJ is doing this. Money and he has no pull anymore. He isn't the A side of any negotiations. He HAS to travel around the world to fight fighters, he has no choice being all but a journeyman now.
Dan Rafael recently said RJ is having financial problems and i think it's true. Why else would he be still fighting? It can't be just pure delusion.
I find it hard to believe that he has serious money issues. He has a whole career behind him with many big time fights. He promoted himself for most of his career,so he couldnt have been badly ripped off by promoters. To this day he has a cushy number as a color commentator on HBO. He has a mildly successful rap career. He also comes across a country boy family man. Doesnt seem like the guy who was going out partying, doing drugs(Tyson) getting multiple chicks pregnant(Holyfield) etc. How exactly could he have gone broke??
Hes NOT broke. He made very good Money. He got 10 million for the Ruiz fight and was making 3 mill a pop in all them Light-Heavyweight Title Defenses.
