Lewis had a jab, but I guess given that he was a counter puncher, he liked to paw with it rather than snap it, dont forget, putting your jab out there means it can be countered, and given that Lennox was such a cautious kind of fighter, a counter puncher, he tended not to want to take the chance of committing to the jab and give someone the opportunity to work come thing off it(a counter), he rather seemed to use it to draw leads, create openings so he could counter.

I think some guys are perceived to of had good jabs cause they use it consistently, but also because they had a a generous reach, like I dont think Liston's jab was as good as what Larry Holmes, Ali, Hearn's jab was, but he had such a generous reach, he was able to be effective with it. Think about it, Liston pulled hurt his arm against Ali because he kept reaching with the jab, which was a result of him not getting his feet into position before throwing it, now does that sound like a a guy with a great jab? I guess you could say Froch benefits from having a fairly good reach, cause his jab certainly aint quick, yet its effective when he uses it.

I dont think bad of Holmes for what he said, as most great fighters seem to be up their own arse, they think Boxing started and ended with them, most fighters seem to be like this, they're always talking about how nobody did it like them yadda yadda yadda

Blimey:yep I got to defend my favourite HW,Lewis is my No 2 fav by chance .
In all fairness and all thats been said Larry was without doubt a grade one ***** outside the ring the late Trevor Berbick could have testified to that,I would guess it stems from lack of recognition, ask the man in the street and they may remember Tyson bouncing Larry around the ring (he was 78 years old:deal)
Theres a lot of bitterness and to be fair he did get a rough deal but I hope he meant compared to him Lennox doesnt have no jab
which is true,Lewis was more than competant in the jab field and a great finisher
but Larry had an extraordinary jab and was a superb boxer but within that lies a very bitter man
I only hope future generations remember the man in the ring ,it usually turns out that way...........

Just because Lewis didn't have as good as jab as Holmes (which was an ATG) jab doesn't mean he didn't have a quality jab. Lewis had a better jab than most heavyweight champions.

He really comes across as a bitter lemon. Lewis would have beaten him also.

Holmes was a great fighter and would give any heavyweight hell, but i'd take Lennox to beat him in a tough decision.

Holmes for all his skill was really easy to hit clean, he was almost a heavyweight Juan Manuel Marquez. Technically brillient, but for some reason he got hit a lot. Lennox did better against fighters of similar size, he was very alert against them and was often more aggressive. Lewis didn't like to punch down and that's why smaller guys troubled him more.

I think Holmes would out jab Lewis in large spots, but the big difference is i think Lennox would hurt Larry and get a couple of knockdowns, which would be crucial to the outcome.

Larry had an ATG jab, but if you look closer i think Lennox's jab had more variety in it. As a single shot Holmes' was better, but Lennox hooked off it and could bring it from underneath and vary the speed of it much better.

In a 15 rounder, Holmes would have the advantage in the championship rounds. Larry fought extremely well under fatigue and didn't lose form. I change my pick on this everytime though.

That wasn't really Lewis' prime. Lewis was it his best around 99 ish.

Larry Holmes struggled in all his big fights. He was poor against Witherspoon and Carl the tooth...i mean the truth Williams and Mike Weaver hurt him and gave him fits, even Snipes almost had him too.

Larry was a sucker for a right hand sometimes and Lennox had a deadly right hand over the top of your jab. Holmes would have a problem with Lennox's smothering after getting off.

I'm pretty certain Lennox would hurt Holmes at some point. No one mentions it, but Holmes had average head movement to say the least.

Perhaps if he had not OPENLY ducked Page and Thomas he would have been better appreciated.

Fans don't like fighters who say things like: "They got to give me someone I can beat."

I love Larry, and I think he's a great figher. But his standing in history for what he actually accomplished is actually pretty generous.
