    JENNA: Okay now the fight with Robert Stieglitz came together because a potential fight with Lucian Bute, for whatever reason, did not. Can you tell the fans out there a little bit about the reasons why you guys chose Robert Stieglitz instead of Lucian Bute?

    KESSLER: Yes, Lucian Bute gave us an offer that was like he was saying no to fight me. That was the main problem. I was over there watching his fight and I was ready for the fight, but of course you cannot fight for free if you know what I mean. So that was a big problem about that, so I was lucky to fight Robert Stieglitz after. I am very happy about that.

    JENNA: A lot of fans have debated whether or not they gave you a legit offer and some people have rumored that you were offered $3 million. Was there any truth to that?

    KESSLER: (laughs) No, not at all! I wish it was true! But we were far, far away from that amount. That was a big problem. It was like he was saying no to fight me if you understand what I mean. So I want the fans to know that I’m not afraid of Lucian Bute! Nobody wants to fight for free. I’m really ready to fight for the big belt. I know I’m not a champion any more right now, and you can claim a lot money for that, so I’d be ready for less money but the offer we got was very bad.

    Why not counter offer him?

    Kessler: " Cause the offer we got was so low that it was clear his people had no interest in the fight.. you get what I mean.....I said it twice, so clearly you are a bit slow in the head"

    Yeah, a few people have mentioned it.

    I like Helenius. If he's brought up right (which means strategically) I think he could possibly be the future of the division. Rushing into a Klit fight is ill-advised, but it seems him and the people around him are taking a patient approach.

    cash he was getting. He was getting 100% of the danish ppv, a percent from the live gate, and who know what more.The 750k that he made public was Showtime's money.

    Thanks for this. Great interview with Mikkel Kessler guys. Much appreciated.

    It's clear that Interbox want to protect their golden goose and that they made a business decision. They are clearly not ready to cash out Bute just yet.

    Kessler made NOTHING public. The numbers you refer to are partly Bob Arum's and partly made up by yourself.

    At the end of the day, Kessler and his people are no dummies. They know him beating Stieglitz (which most assume is a foregone conclusion) gives Bute huge leverage for a lot more money in a big-time unification showdown in an already red hot division!

    At the end of the day, if they do fight next everyone will be more psyched in anticipation of that encounter. I know I will, and I'd be willing to bet you will, too.

    I mean, if the theme of the interview was exclusively pertaining to the Bute fight falling apart I can see what you're saying, but there were more topics to go through and she asked a logical follow-up after asking him point-blank if the $3 million offer was real.

    In my sincere and admittedly somewhat biased view, I thought that in itself was a great question with a quality follow-up.

    It takes two to tango.

    I'll say it again. At the end of the day, I think it was a strategic move from BOTH camps to wait for the fight to grow into something bigger.

    Both stand to potentially make more squaring off in a unification bout in a red-hot division. In a way, it will be like a semi-finals to face the Super Six winner should it (hopefully) play out that way.

    168 is ****ing AWESOME!

    Well Kessler did said something about fighting Bute after he gets a belt, but then he goes right away and say, I'd like to fight Ward. :huh

    "Lucian Bute, it’s like he didn’t want to fight me the last we asked. So maybe if I have a belt to negotiate he might want to fight me. "

    "But still with Andre Ward I would like to have a rematch against Andre Ward."

    I would love to see Bute v Kessler and I'm frustrated it didn't happen.
    I'll be smiling when Bute will prove you wrong an beat Mikkel. I know you think Kessler would beat him and that Lucian is overated. If it happens I want an avatar bet. :D
