Don't forget how high he had to move for the fight. He spent most of his career at middleweight and super middleweight.
The fact is Ruiz is a HEAVYWEIGHT and Jones wasn't. Believe me even though Ruiz isn't exactly a KO artist, a punch from him flush is far harder than most in the divisions below. Only a ****** couldn't see that. He took punches before he moved up to heavy, and then moved back down having to shred of 18lbs of This content is protected . THAT's the reason his chin suffered as a result. And Glen Johnson isn't feather-fisted. He's not a one-punch KO artist but he's hurt plenty of guys. And Antonio Tarver is a noted punch at LHW.
I admit after Mclellan he started avoiding fighters. He still was not a glass jaw. When did a chin-check drop him?
you a ******. the louw del valle knock down was a sleep and if you dont believe me maybe you should watch the fight..
Tommy, we have already established that Jones NEVER lost 18 pounds of muscle. That is a BS excuse. If that was the case he would have been KOed in the 1st Tarver fight not the 2nd. He had plenty of time to adjust back to Light Heavyweight by the time he fought Johnson yet he got brutally KOed again. Not only can he not take a punch he is scared as hell to take one. He looks like Fraudley in there when his opponents open up on him.
If Jones has a Glass Jaw how did he take flush shots from for example Hopkins. Who is at least a good puncher at MW. Glass Jawed fighters get put on qweer street by fighters who are much much less than good punchers.
Ultimately, it's hard to say. In his prime he was so good that it's doubtful he even got hit clean. It was only until he got older and his reflexes slowed that his apparent chin weakness became apparent. Jones may or may not have had glass jaw, but for the bulk of his career, it didn't make any difference. BTW, if he in fact did, that makes him an even GREATER fighter. Imagine being able to do what he did with that disability??
Even if it wasn't 18lbs, it certainly wasn't 18lbs of water weight. I mean he weighs in at 175, what does he re-hydrate to considering he was a former MW and still makes 170 even at 40 now, and could make 168. I don't think he'd rehydrate to any more than 183 tops. And he weighed in at what 193 against Ruiz? That's still 10lbs of muscle he had to lose. And that takes a detrimental effort on a fighter's body and a huge amount of effort to lose. So it's convenient after all those years as a pro, all those shots he took from guys like Toney and Woods and Gonzales and Hill, Ruiz etc, that when he gets KO'd after losing 10lbs+ of muscle moving down from HW, that he's got a glass-jaw. If he had a glass-jaw it would of been exposed before, he would of been down when he got caught by some of the punches in that video.
